We've never played the game these mechanics are in place to service - so how can we judge them? Your assessment of the aggressive icon proves just that. In time-restricted large scale player versus environment battlefields, the knowledge of which groups of mobs sense you and which don't, what level differing packs are and if they will link, these icons are going to be CRUCIAL in forming a strategy that will end in victory within the time limit.

Baseless though my FFXI based comments may be in your case, the fact we have no system of judgment for these mechanics leaves your complains without a base as well.
