Part of the congestion problem causing this would naturally be eliminated if the game automatically marked you as AFK then after a set amount of time logged you out. Since this game lacks that feature scum are staying logged in indefinitely no matter what they are actually doing, be that play, watching TV, or sleeping leaving us unable to log in. They really need to program in a forced log out system for AFK players.

Yet another fail queue; mostly 1017s, but the three times today I've gotten to queue, I 1017 in queue (15, ~85, and 129 remaining, respectfully, at time of 1017).
Now, I understand 1017 is the "We are limiting user load to the server" error, but I was under the apparent misunderstanding that making it to the queue meant I got past the 1017 error point; thus why I think queue and then 1017 is a bug.

Doesn't even put me in queue it just gives me the 1017. How many days does it take to fix this? I don't buy a game to not be able to play it.

They've been aware of it for a few days, so they're working on solutions.
The issue we're trying to report here is twofold:
    1) We are getting an Error 1017 without even being placed in a queue
    2) Even if we are in a queue, it is possible for us to receive, completely randomly, an Error 1017 and get booted from the queue, forced back to the start screen... where we again may or may not be able to be placed directly into the queue.

The post you linked references neither of those situations.

To SE community reps: Yoshi-P, in one of his early mission statements, said that one of the goals was to eliminate "stressfulness" from MMO play. I can tell you right now, that it is stressful to have to continually click the mouse or press X on the controller in order to maybe connect to the game. It is even more stressful to make it into a queue, only to get kicked out because of an error. Please pass this feedback on to the dev team, and please, please, please acknowledge that you guys even know this is happening. Thank you.

Ahhh, the golden days before MMOs had queues to log into the servers... good times.

I'll say that I'm pretty disappointed. I'm not going to get angry, because it's just not worth getting angry over for myself.

But I will say that it's 10:34 on the East Coast, and I got off at 8pm tonight and have to be back in in the morning. I can't wait and hope everyone else goes to bed (and even logs off). If I do, I probably wouldn't get any sleep.

I will say that I barely got to play at all this weekend, even after having it off. Many times there was something not working. Now it's this 1017. Honestly, it's a Tuesday night and it's pretty late here on the East Coast time, so for the servers to be so full that I can't even get a que?

Tad ridiculous. I was looking forward to playing tonight and now I'm not sure I can even look forward to playing tomorrow evening, because this probably won't be fixed. the only thing I can hope is that the problem is fixed by this weekend or it could get really ugly.

Apparently this company was in hot water with the original release of this game. I wasn't here for it but I did play FFXI for a couple of years and enjoyed it. I would say that there aren't too many second chances given in the MMO genre of gaming. Usually when you miss, you never get back those people. The way this was promoted they were able to get more people interested, obviously.

But history will be destined to repeat itself, I'm afraid. When I have played the game it is fun and I really liked it and it has some nostalgia of FFXI while not being so much of a grind and more friendly to actually do anything, unlike XI where you needed a full group to kill one normal mob. But not letting people even get the chance to play the game... ??

And another thing, I don't really understand the "Launch" of today. The game basically launched with Early Access because I bought it during the EA and got right into the game, once I got through the horrible instructions and figured out where I was supposed to download the game from. So without a cutoff date, I fail to see what the difference was. But that's not really important, just a quirk I had with it.

Cowcatpig, I'm in the same boat as you are. Not only do I have a job, I'm also a student at a University. So, when I can't log into the game, I get super pissed... I was hardly able to play during EA as well. I had classes this morning from 8:00 A.M. and didn't get home until 4:00 P.M... with today and tomorrow being my only days off of work this week, I expect to be able to play this game!!! It's definitely unacceptable!

There's really no excuse for this nonsense, it's 2013, I would think games would launch better than games that launched in 2004. There's really 3 main problems:

    1. The servers are way too full. They launched equal amount of servers on the JP side to the NA/EU side, even though the US alone has triple the population of JP (And I'm quite sure some Canadians are interested in playing this). And the biggest slap in the face or the straw that broke the camel's back is basically them adding in JP servers. I really have to scratch my head at this, because the source of the problem is the NA and EU servers all being full and locked. The JP servers started having a problem because everyone on NA and EU migrated over to the JP servers. I mean, being able to play, despite lag, is better than not playing at all, right?

    2. Not a proper working queue system. Sorry, but capping a queue at 300, especially with the load the game is having now is pure nonsense. I remember the days in WoW when queues hit in the thousands and sometimes, even higher than that. Getting in the game shouldn't be like playing a slot machine.

    3. No auto-afk system. Because the servers now are a first come basis, people are going to sit in game for hours on end so that they do not lose their spot. Though I hope they realize by doing this, the chances of frying their computer are pretty darn high, I can see why they do it. Rift had this problem when they went Free to play, and a week later, they had an auto-kick system after 15 minutes of not playing.

I just... It really blows my mind more than makes me upset now. How could they not see these easy to see problems? These issues were a problem in Open beta, how could you not see these problems would be much worse in EA and on Launch day??? Did any of the tech team watch launches of ANY recent MMOs???

I've been to quite a few launches: World of Warcraft original launch, Diablo 3, Rift, Tera, SWTOR, and now ARR. This ranks a close second to WoW's original launch, and at least with WoW, we could make characters and be in the game (Though the lag was unbearable. Hamster off it's wheel, indeed).

    They need to either do:

    1. Open more servers. And offer free transfers off of already crowded servers.

    2. Fix the queue system cap. 300 cap is a pitiful number.

    3. Put in an auto-afk removal system.

Something needs to be done before people get fed up and find another MMO. I hope SquareEnix realizes that it's not like how it was back when WoW just launched, there's a lot of MMOs out there nowadays, and people aren't going to be patient when other games have stable servers.

It's a real shame, because other than this mess, the game is wonderful. It's having the reverse problems that a lot of other games have (Smooth launches, but the game itself is blah or below average).

    Here's hoping though...
