You have to wait up to working 5 days after joining BT before you won't be throttled and it's only the totally unlimited broadband and totally unlimited infinity packages that are not throttled. If you're paying for the £10 a month broadband or £15 a month BT infinity you will still be throttled, both prices are excluding the £15.45 line rental.
A BT rep also mentioned it on their BT care forums at http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infini...BT/td-p/764984

Same here BT infinity 6pm-7pm Lag wall - BT treating the client/game as P2P - sort it out SE or else you will be having alot of unhappy customers.
that seemed to work thanks alot and its free!!!I'm using SpotFlux, it's free and seems to work pretty well. No problem launching the game and I don't get any noticeable slowing of my connection.
FF XIV is 100% UNPLAYABLE using BT broadband during the hours of 6pm - 11pm due to stupid P2P throttling!! I have just tested by using a VPN app and it worked every time. But when disabling the VPN the game becomes unplayable due to over 1 min of DELAY on every action.
Will SE contact BT to sort this out?? They are one of the largest ISP in the UK, and this issue will affect ALOT of people!!!
Also many people will be unaware it's the ISP P2P throttling that's to blame, and will instead blame the game and servers for the problem. So it is in SE's best interests to contact BT about this issue before it puts many people off the game!!!!
I just phoned bt and they said they don't have a cap so I have no idea wots goin on ...
Well I have tested it and confirmed that when I use VPN I have no delay and the game works properly, then I test without VPN and the game has over 1 min of delay and is unplayable.
And it only happens during the hours of around 6pm - 11pm
They are even talking about it on the official BT forum (link)
My internet speed is garbage, I don't think even using a VPN will fix this problem for me without having a significant impact on the game too.
try it, it may work, speed isn't that important to online gaming once you pass about half a meg, ping is the important thing and it has no really link to connection speed, the reason the peer to peer throtteling affect people is because your trafic becomes low priority so not only does your speed drops they massively increase your latency giving priority to others.
