Same issue with crossfire. I downloaded the 13.8v2 beta drivers. Wonderful improvement in the benchmark...in game...randomly it lags going from 38 fps down to 12...when there is nothing causing lag.Well, unfortunately neither crossfire or sli are being properly utilized at this point.
The benchmarks uses SLI properly, but I'll tell you with 100% certainty that SLI isn't optimized in the actual game.
There are areas where I get low fps, then change the camera angle slightly and get triple the amount of fps. My card also has very low GPU usage and underclocks itself in a lot of towns.
The only areas that seem to be utilizing sli are dungeons, but I get 100+ fps in them on a single card anyways.

XFX 7950 OC
etc. etc. expensive stuff.
I get lag, a lot of it. This game looks OK not lag worthy though.
If you haven't yet you could try the new 13.8 beta2 drivers, they are the first to add support for FFXIV.

Other than that I don't know... They either made changes to the graphics engine or then the amount of ppl online somehow make you lag. What kind of fps do you get in the inn room?
That didn't do anything.
I have a medium system build and I can push the game at high around 30-60 frames with the lower hits when a lot of people are around. A lot of your lag is likely server related, server making you jump a lot giving a slight effect of fps hits but all those character models are eating you up too. Once things chill out a bit I'm sure everything will be fine. Also OP your system is not that powerful, mine is slighty better and I'm thinking of playing on med-high for overall optimal experience. I would check your cpu usage in task manager while in game and run gpu monitoring software, also check your temps. Phenoms run kind of hot but I would be worried past 60-65c that cpu.

I've just ordered a new haswell cpu and a gtx 670 because this game is eating my current CPU beyond belief lol. just spent 500 pounds on ram a new Mobo the haswell and gfx card so I hope this goes some way to sorting the FPS out.
I updated to the 13.8 beta drivers and it had no effect whatsoever. I then disabled crossfire running on just my 6870 HD and the framerates improved significantly even in very crowed areas, so this proves that the crossfire support is the issue. Having said that I am getting frequent and rather annoying stutter every 5-10 secs. Making the game not fun to play.
I don't think multicards are supported at the moment. Monitor your GPU usage with two cards enabled. It basically offloads to each card. Often times you'll see the load at 40% and the cards being underclocked in certain areas.I updated to the 13.8 beta drivers and it had no effect whatsoever. I don't know if the same thing is happening to you with crossfire, but I'm using SLI and I have better or same performance with it disabled. The benchmark actually utilizes SLI properly, but the game itself doesn't.
I don't get constant stutters, but I get no improvement at all with SLI basically. I'm on 2 GTX 780s.
I did monitor my gpu usage while in x fire and it IS using the secondary adapter so x fire IS supported (just as they said it would be with every official notice Ive seen on the subject), it is however VERY poorly optimized and makes the game run WORSE.
I made a new topic for the sli issue..

Sli should NOT degrade performance.
If it's an issue, it needs to be noted and fixed.
They said it would be ready for launch and I was really hoping it would be.
Early access != launch, I also read it would be ready at launch, so just hold out a couple days and see what happens.I made a new topic for the sli issue..

did you check in the settings and turned up the max frame rate its capped at 30 fps if you install the client
