    I'm a commercial software developer myself, so here's my opinion, for what little it may be worth in the greater scheme of things, along with observations and hopefully a little extra info to help figure things out...


    My brother and I are both having 10102s this morning. Separate accounts, physical CE, preordered back in May. I only had to push through the crowd to register my code; we had to contact support to get his to work as it appears that SE's preorder system would only allow using one registration code per purchaser even if they bought more than one copy.

    TBH, I think the error 10102 is a generic "you were kicked during a login attempt due to the server being full" error, only with a useless message. The are, after all, choking the number of concurrent connections in an effort to find out what the overload point is for the instance system - each world is supposedly intended to support 5,000 players (at least this was the case for 1.0; SE is notoriously tight-lipped about everything so we don't really know what the limits are in ARR) and there's way, way more people than that trying to log in (Yoshida posted on the JP twitter feed that they had to limit the total traffic on the OB to 12 million concurrent connections at one point), so IMO 10102 is likely the server's way of saying it's full and won't be queueing the connect.

    I would advise SE that useful error messages exist for a reason. It's far easier to understand the situation when the message says "Sorry, the server is full and cannot queue your login at this time - please try again in ten minutes or so" than it is when the message is "connection with the server was lost."


    - Error seems to apply only to characters created in Open Beta.
    I was in B2/3/4, bro was B3/4, and the affected characters were both created during B4/OB.


    - Most people having this issue experienced the infamous 3102 issue in Open Beta.
    I didn't, but bro did for about 18 hours. I did see a 90000 disconnect and a 3102 once but it was brief. Bro just reported to me that he was seeing some 90000s this morning as well.


    - Most players didn't have a chance to log into their characters after the Open Beta 3102 error was fixed.
    Not the case for us. We rode out the OB once he could get back in; most of our guild had at least one level 20 by the time the beta ended.


    - Most players having this issue were logged out in an instance.
    In my case, no. I don't know where me bro logged, but he was talking on Mumble about logging in a sanctuary. Neither of us could do an instance yesterday due to the instance system failure, so we just fate-hopped and knocked out sidequests.


    - Issue has been happening since the start of early release, we have not been able to log in once.
    Not applicable to our cases.
