I agree that 30mins for protect and shell would be good, also make then both instant cast.
The only buff that really needs to have a long cast time is stoneskin.

Make it a 5 min duration base, then add an additional 30 secs or so every 3-4 ranks.
for this just make it so the buffs wear off as soon as there removed from your bar, so the buffs have to remain on you action bar to remain activeHonestly, I'd be for hour long buffs...but with the current system, I don't think it'd work.
If each buff lasted 30 minutes to an hour, what's to stop someone who's leveled conj/thaum/whoever from just throwing those specific buffs into their action bar, casting them, then moving them out for whatever else they want? Wouldn't be hard to set up a macro to set up your entire action bar as buffs, cast them all, then switch them back to whatever attacks/abilities you typically use. As it stands right now, it's entirely too obnoxious to do this every five minutes.

Indeed! Or even better...INT based because MND already controls MP, magic def and heal potency while int only covers nukes potency. This would add some value to INT even for non-mage classes. It should also affect the effect duration lenght at character from absorb spells (PIE would still be who affects the duration at monsters, making duration different depending of the values of MND and PIE of characters)
How about making AM magic casting longer? for a better looking effect.

INT based would make no sense, INT is a DD stats and MND is a healing stat, 9/10 the buffer = the healer and assuming SE do split the conjurer job eventually the healing class would get the buffs.
Imo, i think those buffs should last for ever, only disappear when the world ends at 2012.
Seriously? could you be more lazy?
What is the problem of casting buffs every 5 min? From all the things you could pick from the "bull s" pool, you just piked the one that had no problem at all.
Increasing the time of the buffs wouldn't bring any tactical advantage whatsoever, at the exception of adding laziness.
So, imo, no, no, and no, there is no need and it does not improve anything.
Not wanting to perform the same tedious task every five minutes ≠ laziness. It improves everything. Rather than doing a blasted chore every 5 minutes, I can get back to enjoying the game.Imo, i think those buffs should last for ever, only disappear when the world ends at 2012.

I have an even better idea:
You turn a buff on and it stays on for your and all party members (within a reasonable range of your position). If you take it off your bar, it disables it. Buffs like stoneskin would auto-refresh on all players every 3 minutes or so.
