Befriending Offline Characters?

For the time being, my sister and I cannot be online at the same time, however we have two separate accounts, two separate copies of the game. I would like to befriend her character so that we can at least exchange items and mail. However whenever we try to send a friend request to each other we're given a "cannot locate character with that name" message.

Does this mean it is impossible to befriend an offline character or is there some other method or solution? Thank you for your time and answers, they are very much appreciated!

Yes. As far as I have tested in beta 4. You can't add someone unless they are online at the time. Unfortunately.

Are y'all on the same server? I know in some games you have to be on the same server to friend someone. And I thought as long as you had 2 separate accounts, you should be able to be on at the same time.

My sister and I have the same setup. We use the same computer so only 1 of us can be on at any given time. It would be a shame if I couldn't add her as a friend - even if it's only to send her annoyng PM's

I'll keep popping in to check on this so I know whether I can friend her.

Find a friend with ffxiv so one of you can log on there. As of now you have to be logged in to be friend requested.
