    Targeting STILL an issue

yay. thanks for being able to change target mode, altho I see no use for this, There are still some bugs.

When Casting on a mob, the mob info (status bar) disappears. WHY?

When using the "Next NPC" why does it target the mob in the background, and not the mob at my feet that I cant see in 1st person mode. I am forced to walk backwards then cycle through targets in order to target the mob biting my feet.

Why doesnt it auto lock on a target after I cast a spell on it. If I spirit dart it, it will lock on but not if I cast a spell?

Cant select dead players to raise them unless I use the UP arrow, cycling through "Next PC" doesnt find dead people. on a side note to that. my Raise is on ac bar 3. but I HAVE to target something in order to change from 1-2-3. Well when on ac bar 2, It automatically selects cure (I have cure II set to ac1) then IMMEDIATELY asks for a target. This stops me from being to select back to ac bar1 or ac bar3. I literally have to cast sure in order for it to stay up long enough for me to arrow UP or Down. aka... make SOMETHING else action bar change... ie.. page up/page down/ "+" "_"....

I think the new system is more for game pad users who don't have the want to take their hand off the controller to use the mouse for a quick target selection.

The status bar vanishing is a feature that popped up after the march update I think they are working on it.

You can turn off the auto target lock of things like spirit dart in the configuration menu. Spells don't lock you because it would suck to be locked on a player after casting cure.

I'm aware you can't select dead players and I think you should be allowed to target them normally whenever too. Maybe you should make it a suggestion, I'm not too sure if its a bug since its like that for everyone.

But he's damn right about this, and it bothers me a lot too.

Not only on mobs, my friend. I've tried having all the time locked my target on the tank of my party and sometimes his status bar would stay but wouldn't show any HP nor the status he is under unless i do cast something on him again. It's not a 100% thing but i believe it could be reported as bug, as i did.

My combat performance has been sub-par ever since the targeting system update.

I always have to do some sort of action in order to get the action bars on screen, which enables me to change action bars with the arrow keys. (Is there another way to change action bars?) With the new system, I have to be locked on a target to change bars (though I swear sometimes it ignores that and changes modes anyway), or else it changes modes instead; with no way to change said hotkey. I can't count how many times now that I've tried to switch bars and ended up changing my target mode and targeting allies (or myself) instead of enemies that I need to attack or keep aggro on.

Edit: More on that: You can't change targets after being locked on, which happened automatically on default settings; forcing me to turn off auto target lock-on; which forces me to manually toggle lock-on whenever I want to change bars, making combat even more tedious.

This is incredibly frustrating in groups when I'm tanking because I can't switch bars and activate other skills unless I actually use a skill, and then by the time I use said skill and change back to my other bar and try to attack or provoke, I'm targeting a friendly instead.

I've not even mentioned the fact that tab targeting is HORRIBLE and will target something off in the distance instead of something right next to you. I'm forced to tab target because I can't click on enemies in 15 person parties; whether because there's too many people crowded over the enemy; or because they made nameplates clickable with no option to turn that off.

Where is "Target Mode C) Use the old targeting system"?

Hell, where is the ability to re-bind space, enter and the arrow keys? I've resorted to autorunning in order to rotate my camera (even 180°) when my mouse hand is busy because I've unbound the camera control keys since the arrow keys were not bindable. In what game does one hit space to start chatting? Personally, I'd rather have space do what enter does and vice versa; or you know, have enter start chat and also confirm everything. Would rather workaround the chat issue by being able to hit /, which is what some games require for chat input to start when the focus is elsewhere.

The planned PS3 version of the game has really destroyed the PC version. Why was something like "Use separate PS3 client" not thought of in development after experience with FFXI? It'd be like having a 'gamepad' version of the game; except it's completely tailored to the PS3, while the PC version is completely tailored to the PC. Sure, it'd require more development time since they'd have to update both versions separately, but then you get the optimal experience people will enjoy and respect.

It's sad when you want to love something but hate so much about it.

In ENEMY mode myself is targeted before I use an ability. Make it target only enemies until an ability is chosen.

While selecting a party member as a spell target, the game only cycles through targets that are visible from my perspective. If a party member that needs to be cured is behind another player from my line of sight, the targeting system will skip them unless I change my perspective. Change it so that it cycles through the party list, not from targets nearby.

If I'm in PARTY mode and I suddenly want to change to ENEMY mode I have to press the cancel button 3 times if I've already selected an ability. This is way too long. Make it so that I can disengage the action bar and reengage faster.

I believe things I mentioned were more design oversights than bugs; but I'm not the OP so I'm not going to bother filling out a massive template of which 90% of the things on it aren't related to said issues listed by the OP or myself. But alas, it's needed to get a report filed, which is sad and quite inefficient to do for every single issue.

I suppose I will go wander around the suggestion forum (which still isn't clear if it's actually for FFXIV itself along with the website, but evidence is leading that to be a "No").

I think the long, mostly irrelevant questionnaire is aimed at the mob info/status bar disappearing part of the post.

Still, though, the copy/pasted form is a little ridiculous. Doesn't even seem like the original post was read. I often see the mods picking a random day to spam the same post on almost every thread in a certain section of the forums without seeming to even bother addressing what the problem was. The technical forum moderator is really bad about it. I swear, on April 8th he went through every thread on the technical forums and posted 'go check out our knowledge database' when several of the threads either started with or posted a little further down in the thread 'I looked through the knowledge database and couldn't find an answer.'

Anyway, all of this is irrelevant anyway. Just kind of hit a nerve. I'd rather them fix the issue rather than personally answer every post on the forums, but when I'm not seeing either get done, it bugs me.
