Is there a way to play FFXIV with the FFXI control scheme?

I'm referring of course to the keyboard only control layout FFXI had. during the beta I had a hard time targeting monsters because I had to click everywhere to target them.

It may seem old fashioned of me, but is it possible for me to use the the FFXI macro books style control scheme that was in FFXIV?

You couldn't tab through them or you mean you had a hard time using tab?

There are target next monster left and target next monster right actions. may want to look into those?

you can set up all the key binds however you want if thats what your asking? hitting select will always target the mob or player most directly in front of you.

I tried using the tab thing but it was awkard given the fact that nearly all ability commands are locked to your 1,2,3,ect bars.

You can't get it exactly the same, but I did see someone that was working on a keyboard only build. They seemed to have everything sorted except for the active help window, so just play around with your keybinds and learn all your shortcut keys and you'll get there. I've personally gone the opposite way, and assigned all the targeting buttons I'd normally use to my mouse so that I don't have to always rely on trying to click on moving enemies/players.

It would be nice if they did implement a FFXI control scheme though, I don't think it would be too hard for the devs to implement either. lol, hell, I remember when i thought the FFXI control scheme was awkward...look me now..it's ironic isn't it?:P

I think everyone found the FFXI control scheme to be awkward when it first came out. It took me at least a month before I felt comfortable using it I think. Was such a long time ago I don't even remember.

you could also use the macro route with assist and such so you always target what the tank is targeting there are entire threads about macros. one in this section too
