    [Request] In game memorial

It may not save the game nor contribute towards it, but if time and resources ever permit I would appreciate something placed in game (such as a statue) to commemorate the tragic events from March 11th onwards.

I understand that perhaps many may feel this is too depressing a thing to do. But I think it would be a nice gesture of respect to have a place for players to gather and honor our fallen friends and the heros whom continue to fight for restoration.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

As much as this would seem a good idea, I would still have to say no. A lot of people play games such as these to escape and forgot about such events. That would serve as a reminder in a place that most don't want to be reminded. Also, Eorzea does not parallel our real world and since no such event occurred in-game, it would still be very odd.

There's what happened at Silvertear, and there's always what will happen in the near future with Black Shroud. Yoshi-P is planning on razing it all down and rebuilding it. :P

This easily resolves the lore issues.

Dungeons & Dragons Online has a memorial to Gary Gygax (sp?), the creator of D&D, added shortly after his death. There's a big shrine to him in a graveyard in the game (The graveyard is home to a series of dungeon adventures which he did the Dungeon Master voiceovers for prior to his death).

I'm not saying that something like that is automatically appropriate here, the Gygax memorial is a nod to the man who made the game possible. The earthquake doesn't really hold major significance to the game itself.

i personally would like something put in game. And can just be a stone monolith just saying in memory of those we lost. Some of us lost friends that day and we can't go to japan to pay our respect. Or set up a shrine/ temple. What they can do is set up a shrine/temple honoring titan and leviathen (sp) with a monolith there. have the levi shrine near LL and the titan shrine near Ul'dah. I don't see why it is a bad idea. alot of players in WoW had a funeral for a popular player who died. (and someone crashed it) And by alot i mean huge line of players. My brothers co-worker told him about it and he told me.

I'd really like the stone monolith honoring all the people who lost their lives. The fallen warriors, who were our brothers in this game. It would really be a nice gesture.

Like it was said, maybe in a remote location, and somewhat vague poetic words

I am by no means trying to show disrespect but events like this occur quite frequently around the world. What about the genocide in the Middle East and Africa? We have no such monuments representing those lost there. It is a tragedy, there's no doubt about that for sure and may those affected by the disaster find peace soon.

Player held funerals, IMO, are the correct way to handle such situations. In terms of lore and game world, having a Leviathan or Titan shrine would be almost heathenistic as the Primals are contradictory towards to Twelve. And considering the relationship between the beast tribes and the Primals, having players in direct contact with the primals is a bad idea.

It was just a though. And i'm not saying an exact monument something vague. And if game were made in those location I would say the same thing. SE is a japanese company we play with them. Some of us had japanese friends. I think just a stone monolith with the words to those we lost. Is a vague representation. remember 15 years prior the game was in a war. Having a monolith represent both would be nice.

I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of in game memorial, but I do think it would have to be vague and fit in with the lore. Even if it was secretly about those we lost.
I understand what JayvirDeforte is saying too.. FFXI for me used to be a place where I hid from my real life depressions and pretended they didn't exist for a short while. When times got bad sometimes I think it was the only thing that kept me sane. A distraction. Something throwing reality back in your face may not be appreciated.
Perhaps a stone monument in some remote location. A small cave or area where people don't need to go if they don't like, but can if they would like to. A monument to our fallen adventurers.
I'm for this idea if done right.

Why is that tragedy more important than any other in the recent past? I don't think real world monuments have any place in game. Just my opinion folks.
