Grand company? Does it matter which Job I choose?

I am working toward Paladin. I heard Maelstrom set bonuses toward Paladin/Warrior? But then, I really want to become part of Ul'dah!

You can choose any Grand Company you want. The uniforms stats vary, so one GC's uniform might be more useful to one job than another...but you can always change jobs or just not use the uniform. Either way, you can pick whatever GC you want.

The Grand Company gear is nowhere near the best in the game so you dont have to worry about that too much. I would honestly say choose based on the cosmetic looks / city you like since the gear will eventually be replaced.

the GC gear is good at specific levels like the weapons around the 20's were better than dungeon drops of the same level range. but no it doesn't matter what city you start in. you can chose any GC after the ifrit fight (or at least that was the time in beta) and the three nations quest that follows.
