Found a good suggestion for all four Hot Key bars:

    Bar 1: 1-5 then f1-f5 then -=
    Bar 2: shift + Bar 1
    Bar 3: ctrl + Bar 1
    Bar 4: alt + Bar 1
i think i will try that it makes good sense to me.

one of the guys on that site suggested it I would credit him but not sure if people mind us sharing their IDs or not.

    SUMMARY:

this is a summary of the key points to editing UI:

CTRL+Home) in HUD window to change size and move

Shift + Item will snap to grid

CTRL + Right click to hide or show item in HUD

    Hot Key Alternatives

    Bar 1: 1-5 then f1-f5 then -=
    Bar 2: shift + Bar 1
    Bar 3: ctrl + Bar 1
    Bar 4: alt + Bar 1
thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions and tips.

No problem at all. I'm always messing around with my HUD. Even when I finally set one up that I like, I eventually get bored of it or just come up with some new ideas that I wanna try. I was really happy to see how the community is contributing to my (maybe our) OCD. ;P

You can. By default, hotbars 4-10 are shared. You can edit which bars are shared and which are not. I can't remember if it's under System Config or Character Config though.

Your set up sounds very workable, i really dont need everything displayed all the time, mostly just the working tools and the fighting buttons. I wonder if making the Map and Chat box come and go on the fly is a worthy thing to ask the Devs for.... what do you think?

I personally like that the Minimap and chatbox are both static. It would be a bit awkward to try and account for them aesthetically. At the same time, I wouldn't mind the option as that would offer others more flexibility.

That is a very reasonable and sane looking UI thanks for sharing that picture. I will study it for hints. Yes i can see your point about the maps being static, i just need to clear room so that i can see what is going on, now that I know generally what buttons do what they dont need to be default size and that will help a lot to make more room. thanks again.

The intent was to try and make everything over a "horizon" as unobstructed as possible. I play (primarily) on a 2560x1440 monitor, so with the 80% scale it's much.. much easier. I'll set up the UI again and see what I end up with.

You can hide the mini map in the HUD, click to highlight and then right click to turn it off.

Turning the chat box off is not possible yet. Hope we can do that soon.

Love the sharing of UI ideas here btw.

you can resize your HUD elements by pressing ctrl + home on your desired one
it would be perfect if we can also resize the chat font to smaller than 12

I like to have three separate chat boxes. I always feel like I am missing guild or group conversations when they are hidden in tabs..lol
