    UI Adjustment Help

Can anyone help understand how to make User Inferface changes and explain how features work. I know this is basic and covered in manual i am working on that too but wanted to ask for help as often community members can explain things a lot faster.

Basically i would like to make the mini map disappear and re appear as needed, same for the chat box but i suspect that is not possible, and also would like to be able to make the quest titles much smaller so that they don't take up so much room. I hope to move or minimize the hot keys for skills to free up room. I am wondering if there is any way to turn off the UI but retain essential screen features.

About the default two rows of skill boxes at the bottom, i was unsure using them in combat, there are two rows 1-10, there are two "1"s , 2 "2"s and so forth...so when we hit the 1 key is it activating BOTH skills if we have different skills in box 1 of both rows?

I did see there was a option in the settings that opens a window with ALL of the possible UI boxes on the screen but there was NO explanation of how to adjust them and what they meant as they were not arranged like the default lay out, just a huge pile of boxes. That may be the place to make these adjustments but there was no in game help for it, and i was focusing on completing as much of the progress as possible in the beta and did not have time to go looking. thanks for any help on this.

I found that you could MOVE the chat box by putting your cursor on the far left tab and then could move it about. But i could not figure out how to make the skill box bars smaller, or same for the quest names or how to turn the mini map on and off.

thanks again very much for help on this.

    • Make the mini map and chat box disappear and re appear as needed.
      • This can't be done at the moment.
    • Make the quest titles much smaller so that they don't take up so much room.
      • You can reduce the overall size of the quest list UI element by opening the HUD editor, selecting the element and pressing CTRL+Home
    • Move or minimize the hot keys for skills to free up room.
      • Open the HUD editor, select the hotbar in question and hit CTRL+Home.
    • Turn off the UI but retain essential screen features.
      • I believe CTRL+Right-Click on an element while in the HUD Editor will hide that element. CTRL+Right-Click again to have it appear again.

      There are two rows 1-10?
They are two separate rows with two separate hotkeys. You'll notice (especially if you increase the element's size with CTRL+Home) that one just shows "1", "2," "3," as shortcuts, while another would show "Ctrl 1" and so forth. You can edit these in the keymapping.

was a option in the settings that opens a window
I assume you're talking about the HUD editor. You can click and drag elements where you want them, then save it to keep pieces where you want.

If you're bored and want to play around with arranging the UI, can use this site. http://ffxiv.game-junkie.net/HUD/

thank you both very much. Ah so the map wont move ok i wont worry about that, and thanks for the tips on the hot keys i guess that means that the skills i had set on them were never used lol. No wonder some of the bosses laughed at me. ah well, this is a learning expeience and be overcoming my embarassment at NOT knowing things and asking, magically thanks to you all, I think things will go better thanks again.

When i looked at the UI page in the HUD editor all of the shapes looked like they were just stacked in there with no order and i was really afraid if i messed with them the entire UI might disappear. I will take some time to work on it, as it was very frustrating to have to peer around all of the elements to try to see the action. thanks

and that trail page sounds great thanks again!

PUCK..that simulation page is FANTASTIC....perfect for what i need to do and thankfully i had to learn Japanese some years ago for i am training to make Anime and Manga. that is wonderful thanks again!

You can move your minimap where you want, and you can move the full map where you want too. You just can't have it appear or disappear on the fly.

There are a lot of hot bars you can activate (I use a grid of 2x2 in the center bottom, and 2 vertical bars on the side) as you need them. Position doesn't matter until you activate them.

Freyar, you are a godsend thanks so much for your patient and kind sharing. OK, got it re the map, and for helping me understand the scary HUD storage room I was afraid it might be like Fibber McGees' Closet and all come tumbling out. Your set up sounds very workable, i really dont need everything displayed all the time, mostly just the working tools and the fighting buttons. I wonder if making the Map and Chat box come and go on the fly is a worthy thing to ask the Devs for.... what do you think?

One thing I noticed about hotbars is that when you switch classes your abilities swap out on the horizontal bars (obviously), but if you activate the vertical bars those don't. So you can drag your gear sets to those and have them always available when switching classes.

I believe that's a per bar setting, by default horizontal bars swap with class while vertical ones don't. I believe you should be able to change this behavior for every bar.

You can. By default, hotbars 4-10 are shared. You can edit which bars are shared and which are not. I can't remember if it's under System Config or Character Config though.

I personally like that the Minimap and chatbox are both static. It would be a bit awkward to try and account for them aesthetically. At the same time, I wouldn't mind the option as that would offer others more flexibility.
