I received the same email, which is worrying. The first thing that got me thinking that it was suspicious, was that they put my username as 'Naazgul' >_>. I like LOTR but I don't like it enough to make that my username XD.

I got it as well. I should've known something was up when it had my name listed as Dantes2099. Not even close to my name, lol.

At second glance, hyperlinks are individualized.

I just got the same e-mail, luckily my code worked or I might have fallen for that one. Thanks for the heads up.

    It actually is legit.

Link in email takes you here:
    http://preorder.na.finalfantasyxiv.com/

    Offical site is:
    http://preorder.na.finalfantasyxiv.com/

Best guess, they had to register a new domain/server to send out emails because of all the congestion they have been dealing with.

I think there are legit ones out there.

There is also one that is fake which linked to the other URL. Check out the previous poster with whois info posted. It is clearly not legit

Except I did read it and got the exact same email word for word from the same address and it was 100% legit. It is more likely that SE sent it to a sub-set of people who they believe got the wrong code without actually checking to see if they did or not. I myself followed the exact instructions and was able to finally activate my account. If i had to guess they made a new server/domain for sending the email to help with the congestion, being as the initial emails were taking 2-9 hours and this reply came withing 3-4 seconds.

As far as user names go, it is right, mine was listed as Raijitsu, which isnt my 'user name' but the handle the main SE site assigned me when i registed FF7 for the achievements. We all know SE has 323203412 million sites that all require you to relogin/register. I bet you registered that name for one of their games and just didnt remember.

When i login there it calls me raijitsu even though my forum handle is Claire, and I have a different actual user name that i type to login.

When I log into there, it calls me MoroGaias, my actual username. I've never used the name Naazgul, ever... :x This is why I was like "Ohhh hey, hold on... something is wrong here"

I got the same email and everything points to the correct websites. the email-square-enix domain links redirect to the legit sites.

Mine did not have a user name on the email, so there might be legit & phishing versions of the same mail floating around out there.

His email, as ours did, stated to go to the site & re-enter the existing pre-order code he received. It's good to be cautious, but if he got the same mail I did, it's completely legit.

If it came from the email-square-enix.com domain, it's legit.

If they had gotten my username right I might be more inclined to think that this was legit. D:

After all teh phishing stuff we went through in XI and now XIV, it's good that as a community we're cautious about this kind of thing, because the minute someone gets hit, they are attacked for being stupid.

We're attacked for being cautious and attacked if we get our account stolen if we're too trusting XD We can't win!

This is crunch time. His email specifically stated he was to click link for a new code. Ummm SE wouldn't do that, unless they made a post here first. There are so many people out there that want your codes, so why the warnings? So people that are ignorant will understand that something this big is very easy to scam. This is Internet Security 101
