Yes, and they were called "epic" because the quest involved to actually get the item was epic itself. People that complain about grinding now have now idea what it was like to get an epic in Everquest. I only managed to get the 1.0 and 1.5 epic for my mage. It took forever. I never want to have to go through that again. Q_Q. It was practically traumatizing.
Actually, I did. The grind for FFXI does not compare. Not even close.

Traumatizing? You must not have played FFXI.Yes, and they were called "epic" because the quest involved to actually get the item was epic itself. Back in the day it would take around 180mil-300mil gil to buy the currency to obtain the relics in FF11, not even the most expensive item in the game(kraken club) would give you a third of the gil for then(plus it had a drop chance of like 0.4%?). You could grind for 2-3 years straight(like some Japaneses did) or buy the gil, that would be 4000$ back in the day, or become a antagonist and create a greedy dynamis shell, tricking people to keep all the currency all for yourself. You probably play the game after abbysea was released, but relics where famous back in the day among MMO players too, it was hardcore and extremely grinding quest, and required the help of 24+ people to complete the quest in 90% of the task's ahead, it was a whole linkshell hard work for 4-6 months worth, to reward a single individual with a "epic" weapon.
