lol, was this a reference to the new AFv2? Cause that is capped at 300 of the currency per week and although I don't recall how much is required per piece I do know it is a lot higher than 300.
that got me thinking that maybe that could be something similar.
I don't know.. I'm more than willing to admit it's just speculation but weekly caps seem like the only thing that would make anything take any time in ARR
I feel exactly the same but I don't think they are time sinking it to be honest. Relics are now a midline of endgame gear and not the pinnacle anymore.
XIV's AFv2 is obtained through "Allagan Tomestones" (not the kind you get for melded gear & Seals) Which are shown as capped at 300/week but require in the thousands per piece. Also, from the same NPC that handles the Relic quests.
Thinking about it a bit further, weekly caps are actually... worse than in other games for this game. Since one character has one weekly allotment of weekly tokens/points, it would take forever to collect everything for every job you have, unless you make a completely new character. In other games you can just go play an alt which have their own allotment of tokens/points. They could also just make it a weekly cap per job.
Hopefully these pieces drop from somewhere else which I'm hopeful they do and the tokens are just a consolation prize for not getting something which they said they are.
You can trade them for the stones at 100 stones/tokens per seal.

can you please explain how do you collect this type of currency you are referring to?
Right now, the only way to get them is to trade in old 1.0 gear that had materia melded into them (which is now cracked) to an NPC. Some old 1.0 specific items like hamlet seals and primal "trophies" (inferno totems, kupo nut charms, vortex totems) can also be exchanged.
There is probably another way to get them, just no one knows right now. Perhaps running content at max level. People will find out soon enough.
This is for the allagan runestones, I'm not sure if there is another currency for the AFv2. Didn't look that close when I checked all the NPCs.
