LoB is classed as end game raid content, it may only be 8 man but I believe they said it is designed to be above CT in terms of difficultly.
I don't think the amount of people in an instance matter its what loot drops IMO.

It also bothers me that there is no /roll command in the game. It is such a small but important quality of life thing. Koldhara mentioned the token system. There will still be regular item drops right?
Free Companies need Master Looter. 24 people cant always play there main class. Free Companies don't all use systems that /random. /random is just that random and does not account for time and effort that most good Free Companies will include in the weight of the rolls. Some items might go straight to the Free Company chest and used when needed at a later date. People make mistakes all the time and miss click on non trade able gear. I agree no master looter for duty finder events but for private parties and raids it would be very useful.
As a Linkshell leader from FFXI (Full Dynamis clears) having control over looting from an organizational standpoint is absolutely key. When running raids with 32+ people things get hectic, and when that rare piece of loot drops? More so.
To have the OPTION of a master loot system, simply removes the stress of a ninja looter. You will know where you stand when you enter and have the option not to participate in a group that would like to decide the gear priorities. It is a simple system, and a choice players and leaders should have. The game has catered very much so to appealing to a casual gamer base, and that's entirely fine. But if I want to play on a level that is a little more organized than the duty finder with need/greed, me and my group should have the ability.
Master looter (and a few more variations) is mostly for those players in organized, long-standing, and usually fairly large guilds - excuse me, FC. In casual situations (like duty finder), I'm happy enough with the current "Need Before Greed" method.
Go read on the server specific forum pages some of the "hardcore" guilds recruiting members. A large % of those will say "we use blah blah loot system" - and it's not the built in one. Lots of reasons that the default one won't work which I won't go into. That subject could be a doctoral thesis paper, lol.
Also, as easy way to explain: How many other MMOs have Master Looter? Vanguard and Runes of Magic definitely did. I *think* WoW did, but I haven't played that in like 8 years. D&D Online, I can't remember. Original Everquest back in 2005 did not - but c'mon, that was 15 years ago EQ started. Anyone can name a top-tier MMO with party loot and NOT have master looter or something similar? Besides FF14.
What is going to happen is that FCs will try to do their system anyway. This means that whoever is decided using the other method will be told to press Need/Greed and everyone else told to press Pass. Then you have that one guy that presses Need to ninja loot. Or goes "omg, I pressed the wrong button!!!". Either way, built in loot system is getting in the way.
PS. It's early in the game and quite possible that something I don't know will matter. If all gear is token based, or if freely tradable, or if Master Looter-like option is there hidden somewhere... then the above could change.

i dont understand why the current system cant facilitate distributing, say, a non-whm gear to a whm just because the player who needs it is not a whm. if there is a common understanding that the aforementioned whm deserves it, everyone else could just pass it?
