    Best way to HQ

    Hi guys ^^

I was wondering if some of you have found something sexy to HQ more often ?
During the beta 4, i tried to HQ items with 1 star and i almost always had 25-30% of chance to get a HQ (up to 60ish% when i was lucky with the status but it was damn rare).

    Thanks.

EDIT : Just in case, this was the actions i used :
    - Careful Synthesis II (Cost 0 CP, Success Rate 100%, Efficiency 120%) : it's my only way to increase progress but i will maybe try the elemental Brands
    - Great Strides (Doubles efficiency of next Touch action, cost 48 CP iirc)
    - Advanced Touch/Standard Touch/Basic Touch (Increases quality, cost 48/32/18 CP, Success Rate: 90%/80%/70%, Efficiency: 150%, 125%, 100%)
    - Hasty Touch (Increases quality, Success Rate: 50%, Efficiency: 100%) : i use it when im out of CP
    - Observe (cost 12 CP, do nothing) : usefull to skip a bad status
    - Manipulation (Restores 10 points of durability after each step for the next three steps)
    - Comfort Zone (Restores 8 CP after each step for the next ten steps.)
    - Tricks of the Trade (Restores 20 CP if the status is good, cost 0 CP)
    - Waste Not II (Reduces loss of durability by 50% for the next eight steps.)

I didnt use it until now but i will try to see if Ingenuity II and Innovation are good or not

that is why it is HQ no?
if it was easy to HQ anything like in beta 3 then everyone will be running around in HQ item, and it will kill the market for crafters

Maybe, maybe not. If someone come and say he got a better % that means i dont use the correct actions so i will listen him to know how i can improve my chances. I dont expect to have 100% but we can maybe have a better result ^^

I haven't tried doing HQ synth in p4 but does skills such as comfort zone and waste not II stack up? also is that the order you're doing your synthesis?

Best way to craft HQ items is to use HQ materials. I rarely ever got HQ otherwise.

What i did in p4 to get HQ items as a gsm, was with quest/bought gear till lvl 12, and the jewelry made by me, what I noticed that was helpful was getting the most of CP posible, IIRC I had around 195CP, so I started out with the steady hand, then depending on the lvl of durability in the item, i would either get 3 basic touch (40 durability) or 5 ones, then use master hand or manipulation (at lvl 15), with that amount of CP i was able to do 2 more basic touch or 1 basic and 1 standard touch and had enought durability to make the item with synthesis

Depending on the lvl of the item, would be after master hand another steady hand, and work with 1 basic touch and the rest on synthesis, that method depending on the lvl of the item, and luck of getting good or excelent condition, would get me 20+ % in getting a HQ item, and like Kamina said, if you use HQ materials, you normaly start around 20ish %, with my rotation I managed to make all my lvl 12-15 jewelry for my GLD and CNJ

If you're near-level, then yeah. It's all really level-dependent. Once you're 8 levels over the recipe level or so, though, you'll be hammering out HQ from NQ mats all day. I can craft an HQ Lantern Shield from all NQ mats at about 90% rate at level 31. Get 70%+ on every Iron Ingot, match 1 NQ 1 HQ on an Iron Plate and get 85-100%, drop two HQ plates on an NPC-purchased NQ Tallow Candle and hammer myself out an HQ shield. 20,000 EXP right there. Sucks down my ice shard supply, though. I'd do the one-steel-ingot quest more if I had better access to bomb ash, but alas, I've all but burned through the supply I farmed up from bombs, and making the level 30 quest armor required that I burn all my HQ ash to make sure I had all HQ mats.

All HQ mats puts you halfway to max quality, which is 15% HQ chance. Yeah, it's that low.

With several cross-class skills and HQ materials, it's very easy to get 100% HQ on 1-star recipes unless you get an unlucky fail on your 90% success skills. With NQ mats, 20% HQ is about as high as I can consistently average on 1-star recipes.* I'm sure I could get that higher with some more experimentation with skills (mainly less reliance on Advanced Touch). With lucky red/rainbow orb, I have gotten 100% HQ on 1-star recipes with all NQ mats.

The same general approach (skill use/order changes depending on the recipe and the orb condition) makes HQing no-star recipes with NQ mats equally easy. It's no secret to say you should start every synth off with Comfort Zone. I don't gamble on my progress skills. Careful II only; rather have an NQ than a break.

In answer to OP's comment about Ingenuity II and Innovation... Ingenuity II seems like it could be a really useful skill but I have not really experimented with it much. I intend to see how it might work into a skill "rotation" of sorts for crafting. As for Innovation, I find it is situationally very useful but I don't use it in every synth.

*edit: I am referring to 40 durability recipes like twinthread here; for 80 durability recipes I can get much higher than that since you have more durability to burn. For example last night I made a set of HQ militia plate armor on my ARM using only HQ cobalt rivets made from NQ cobalt ingots each piece. Only the gloves took two tries to HQ since I had some unlucky fails; the ones that didn't derp the 90% success rate quality skills all had 80% or higher HQ rate and all HQed on the first try.

Agreed. HQ mats are too rare to find.

I don't have Comfort Zone (but I want it). My HQ sequence goes like this for gear. For materials I have to fit a Master's Mend in there somewhere.

Start with Inner Quiet. Repeat Steady Hand, Waste Not, Hasty Touch x4. If Excellent procs use highest available Touch action. Fit in enough Careful Synth IIs to guarantee your last move will finish it before going full-on for quality. Use Tricks of the Trade some of the time.

So far I haven't tried any 50*s due to gear needing an update for ARR. But I just got my AF Tool last night and can now give those a shot. I've had very good success rate when using at least some HQ mats and this strat.
