    Playing on a Legacy Server

I have some friends who owned 1.0 and are thus Legacy characters, but never even leveled beyond what they did in the open beta of ARR. In other words, they're not your typical Legacy players. Given what Square has said about currency imbalances, I'm a little concerned we'll have a rough time of things if we play there, and so I'd like to ask:

How hard would it be to play on that server? Would you suggest we all re-roll on one of the new servers? Your advice is much appreciated.

If Beta 3 was any indication, not hard. I am a legacy player on Hyperion (I can't speak for other Legacy servers), but my highest level is a 13 Harvestor, highest combat is level 1.

The prices of various things on Auction were actually cheaper than non-legacy servers for the most part, and there were lots of non-legacy players as well to group with. You and friends won't have a problem I don't think at all.

Legacy is great. My three friends are joining legacy as opposed to my one person leaving.

    - Most people only had one or two level 50 classes. A lot of people played XIV casually. So you'll easily find people to do things with. Especially with duty finder being cross server.
Looked up data: 4.41% of all players had all 50's at 1.0's end. So there will be plenty to level with, plus arcanist. Source: http://xivpads.com/?Census/1.0/Classes

    - The economy will stabilize faster. Give it a few weeks. For non legacy, give it a few months since they have to figure out what is in demand, what others will want, where to get things, etc. Legacy players have a rough idea of where to get a lot of things and how to get em in ARR. Stuff was all across the market board by the end of phase 4.

    - More established linkshells from the start. Meaning you'll see a lot less of those launch MMO linkshells that last a few days/weeks then just dissipate as members slowly leave or stop playing altogether.

    - More people willing/able to help. Including myself. <3

Leveling is probably 10 times easier/faster now than it was in 1.0 as the only way to level was through the limited quantity of guild leavs provided every two days as well as a fatigue system back then. Market wise, you find things cheaper as there is already people with crafts for more competition. Competition is a good thing as it drives economy, and less monopoly. You will find more people trying to monopolize "the market", on non legacy servers than legacy servers...it's their main reason for not wanting to play on a legacy server.
While leveling up, majority of the time you won't need to buy any gear at all, as gear is given up just by doing quest and in return give you gil, gear, exp. Partying content is pretty much Duty Finder which is spread across all servers. This game is very newbie friendly. Play on either server, but you won't have a harder time playing on Legacy server, guaranteed.

I'm a non-legacy player and I am on Masamune, along with all my legacy and non-legacy friends. I found it rather relaxed and easy enough (still fun) in Beta 3 and 4. So I think you'll be fine! I was starting at level 1 and I was/am fine. =)

Well I am on Aegis and it seemed just fine to level. My only concern is that I am in Denver and the server is JP it might not be the best for parties and or fates because of lag but I will wait and see.

Your friends sound like typical 1.0 players. It's not typical at all to have all-50s and there are many 1.0 (and even legacy) players without even one level 50. In our LS on legacy server the players with level 50 classes are now a minority but we have several old players with level 20ish classes. Legacy servers are a very good place to start for both new and old players with characters of every level.

You can see data of 1.0 players from this link: http://xivpads.com/?Census/1.0/Classes

As you can see only 4.41% of the characters (that data is based on around 50 000 characters) had all-50s and the most common (51.54%) class level for those characters was 0-9 (while 22.51% of their classes were level 41-50).

You probably won't have many issues at all. There are plenty of people in your position who haven't levelled much. Even people who have level 50s often have classes that are level 30 or less that they will be leveling.

Also, when it comes to currency, things might be a little unsettled starting out, but you shouldn't have any problems buying and selling things.

Like everyone else was saying, it doesn't really matter, especially with level sync so easy when it comes to FATEs and dungeons. And there are going to be plenty of people who have low level legacy characters so you won't be lacking for anyone to play with in the low non-synced levels either. Personally, I find having lots of 50s around me motivates me to get there with them so I can play similar content.
