    [suggestion] Better tooltips/more information

One thing I hated about XI was always looking on wiki just to find out hidden information that wasn't shown in game. I suggest SE stop this blindfold trend and just have us informed in game by what the item/ability/spell can do. I hate to bring it up but one thing I admired about WoW is the informative tooltips. SE fix your tooltips and let us know something similar to this(but not limited to)...

1)Spell/Ability Duration(this should be on the ability tooltip)
    2)Spell/Ability Modifiers(if certain elements/stat increases damage)
    3)Show stat increases/decreases on food
4)Show hidden info on armor/weapons(I should know if a piece of armor gives a boost without months of extensive testing)

This is a few things I would personally like to know. However, any added info that would prevent me searching on yg or wiki less would help. I might be in a minority that cares for this info in game but I feel its a decent suggestion.

I agree, it adds nothing to the game hiding the stats.

    Agreed as well.

Now folks are going to come flooding saying this makes the game too easy.

there were times when i thought that hidden stats are cool but i do not have the time or mood to test it out for each item myself and google up things is not a gaming skill.
If the game is too easy then the developer need to add more tactical elements and harder mobs.
design flaws are not what make games hard in a positive way, games need to be hard in terms of challenge, skill and not in terms of bad usability.

I'm not personally saying it makes the game easier. That just seems to be the mindset of most of the people here when something that assists the player is added to the game.

Having being a XI player too. There was just way too much in the game that had to be wiki'd to even have a clue what an item did or what it was for. There's no reason XIV should follow in the same steps.

Exactly. Having this information in no way makes the game easier. It just makes it more convenient instead of spending hours on a website learning/going over information the game should already have available.

FFXI should have came packaged with a direct link to wiki. The lack of in game info only made people search the web for it.

Same goes for the recipes IMO.

When i played FFXI i did print em out, it was cool
Now i am rather annoyed. It's not that they are hard to figure out, you also get told the recipes every time you complete leve quests but SE honestly can not expect me to write em down? or remember them?
There should be some option to look them up. Not talking about the crafting history (very useful) but about having a list of all learned recipes.
You cant design games having in mind that some fans will eventually create a database...

There are sites with crafting database, its cool and handy but it takes away from the game a bit IMO.
In a ideal world it would be nice if people would ask around for the recipes ingame, share info and so on... and some do it but by far not all.

While i agree more information at hand is almost always better, and i am not disagreeing with the op in any way shape or form. I would also like a "Simple tool tips" option as well. I have been swinging a axe around eorzea since around this time last year.. i know what Skull sunder, Fracture, and disorient do. would love to have an option that just says the name of the skill when i hover over it on my skill bar.

The only thing that should be hidden are random effects that do not always make sense but are awesome when they happen.

For instance if theres a "Blood Sword" it should have a random chance to drain health from who ever it hits, but it doesn't need to tell the player that.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

some hidden latent effects would be cool, there should be more gear/weapons with status effects
even cursed gear would be cool
