    Spell Speed Reduction

I was looking at my materia, and looking at the spell speed reduction materia. And I was thinking, if I could get +2500, I could reduce the recast (GCD?) to 0!

Then I realized getting +2500 is probably very very hard (if at all possible?).

So my question is, has anyone been able to work out so far what is a reasonable 'upper limit' on spell speed reduction that one could get, and if it is worth it? Is my materia better spent elsewhere?

    Thank you.

It's up to you, but even a 0.1 reduction in the GCD adds up. You'll probably find yourself adding spell speed regardless just because of the way melding works right now. Example: You have an NQ piece of gear with INT+8. Melding more INT caps the stat at INT+12 and you can't add any more INT after that. The HQ version of the same piece of gear would start out at the INT cap of INT+12 and not allow any more INT to be added. So if you followed how that works, you're generally left with spending most of your melds on other stats.

I should also add that the above example implies that yes, even spell speed reduction has a cap. Stat caps are per piece of gear though and the caps are higher for higher item levels.

Yes, this is a fair and valid point. But is there anything else worth upgrading before spell speed? Should I be adding to Magic Attack, Determination, or something else first? And not bother with spell speed? Has anyone worked it out yet?

To me, it seems if I am in the low 100s the difference is so little it would be lost in lag (between my finger and the key) :P

    Hi Shayla,

I would say the stats that take precedence over anything like Spell Speed are:
    The weapon's Spell Damage/Magic Damage
Your discipline's primary stat (Mind for Conjurer base, Scholar) (Intelligence for Thaumaturge base, Arcanist, and Summoner).

Then, depending on priority, these stats have similar weight for spell performance: Determination (small improvement that is always on), Critical Hit Rating (chance for significant output), and Spell Speed (quicker reaction times).

Based on the tables found on Dancing Mad's Seiken Valk, it would take a good chunk of Spell Speed to reach even a 0.5 second cast speed increase and there may not be enough gear in the game at the moment to reach it without abilities (abilities like Presence of Mind).
