I do have a certain personality in mind for each of my retainers, but i haven't once thought about creating a background story for them. They are just... There. (^_^; )
Mine don't really have anything to them either so I got around that by having my "story" be mostly about seeing someone else's retainer.

It was more of a snapshot story (things happened in a brief period of time but nothing really changed, it just showed part of someone's life) than a short story (with a start, a complication and a resolution) but hopefully some people like it ._.
