I can see the massive gain/loss being a big swing in someones favour, as that involves an actor putting themselves at serious risk for the sake of their craft(Christian Bale for The Machinist, for example. It may not show quickly, but that does heavy damage to your body). On Drama vs Comedy, I've always heard "Comedy looks easier". I guess I can see that, I mean, it feels easy to make your friends and family laugh. Still, both require solid acting, and solid writing, to bring it all together. A drama shouldn't be weighted over a comedy, especially when the two really work hand-in-hand.
Then again, the best movie I've seen in recent memory is The Lego Movie, so maybe I'm just weird. Still do need to go out and see The Wind Rises before it's out of theaters.
