Eorzea - Hydalen's WESTERN Continent

Okay, we know Hydalen is both the Planet name and the name of the Mother Crystal. Eorzea is the Western Continent on Hydalen. What are the other continents? Is one of them Ivalice? Or is this Lore that has yet to be written primarily for future expansions and the longevity of this game?

Eorzea isn't a continent, it's a realm, like a region of the planet (like saying the 'Western Hemisphere' to refer to the USA and the UK together). Aldenard is the name of the continent that Eorzea encompasses, along with the smaller island of Vlybrand. It also has nothing to do with Ivalice - that's a different game.

Apart from this, there are at least two other continents on Hydaelyn, although there may actually be several more - the far eastern continent of Othard, and the north-eastern continent of Islabard - both these continents are entirely under Garlean control (in fact, Garlemald itself is situated in Islabard).

I have also heard there is also a mysterious continent to the west that Limsa Lominsa had recently 'discovered', plus a continent to the north (where it's possible the roegadyn originated from who founded Limsa Lominsa). There is also finally a chain of islands to the south (whose name starts with 'M' but the actual name eludes me at the moment), where the lalafell and, apparently, the miqo'te originated.

So yes, there is definitely far more of the world of Hydaelyn lore-wise than just Eorzea.

Hydaelyn is the world

Looking at the Gamerescape Lore dump (Certified by Fernhewahls or however you spell it, the Lore mod!) there are 3 Great Continents in Hydaelyn. Ilsabard (The middle continent), Aldenard (The southwest continent, where Eorzea is located) and Othard (The eastern continent). The Garlean Empire controls both Ilsabard and Othard, and is working on Aldenard ATM

I do hope the game eventually encompasses them all.
More land means more lore to study, more lore means a happy Atar.

And, just so it's clear:


The Africa-shaped land mass is Aldenard. Vlybrand is located to the south west and is where Limsa Lominsa is. These two together form Eorzea.

Think of it like Ireland + England = United Kingdom.

Also, the Garlean Empire is located north east of Aldenard.

Something interesting I noticed during phase 4 of beta with English text and Japanese voice-overs was that Othard is called Dalmasca in Japanese. (When Nero asks the two soldiers where they're from and the first says Othard and Hummingway says Ala Mhigo before his untimely demise.)
