There's no way to transfer character data between accounts, I imagine...
I don't think the SE system recognizes the old 1.0 Collector's Edition separately from 2.0 Collector's Edition.

i.e. it sees that you have a "Collector's Edition" account and chooses to call it "A Realm Reborn - Collector's Edition" even though you couldn't have tied any ARR Collector's Edition information to it.

If you don't mind losing your Onion Helm and any 1.0 character progress just apply your pre-order code to Final Fantasy XIV 1.

If you want to keep your Open Beta progress and your Open Beta Friends list apply your pre-order code to Final Fantasy XIV 1 and when you get your ARR registration code, apply all of its benefits to Final Fantasy XIV 1.

    Late to the Party

Hoping something like this is fixable. Service Account 1 has my 1.0 CE + Early Access and a Beta Account. Service Account 2 has a Beta Account that I used for phase 3 and 4. Don't remember setting up the second one but yeah gogogo beta! Of course I want my toon with all the CE/EA goodies. So opened a support ticket late last night and got a confirmation email just after noon est. Nothing today. Weird thing today, haven't been able to log on to the forums till 10-15 minutes ago. Get to the character selection and my only option is the open beta character. I have a 1.0 toon as well and i could choose both during open beta. Don't know if I should be excited for this or not... Hoping Beta on Service Account 1 means open beta toon migrated.

    September 22, 2010

    - Created Second account (Final Fantasy XIV 2) and used your Collector's Edition registration code. During the registration process you were informed that the benefits only worked for a new account so during said process you created a "new" account, not knowing that you had already created a new account or were unsure if the beta account "counted" as a new account. Also, you were told your character progress from Open Beta would not carry over into release, but that you could use your character creation data to create a "new" character for release. Was not properly informed that the character you created for Beta was actually already tied to an account you already created but that the progress for that character was wiped while the character creation data wasn't. Even if you were informed, you played it safe and chose to make a new account either way.

    - Either played or didn't play 1.0. Either wondered or didn't wonder why you didn't have all of your Collector's Edition perks.

    August 16th, 2013

    - Sign up for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn as a person who "Already has a Square Enix Account"
    - Create Beta character on Final Fantasy XIV 1.

    August 20th, 2013

    - Confused why your 2.0 Collector's Edition data is being used on an account you didn't create.
    - Didn't realize that 1.0 Collector's Edition accounts get all the same in game items as 2.0 Collector's Edition.

    August 21st, 2013
    - Is informed by fellow gamer that Final Fantasy XIV 2 looks like a 2.0 account when in reality it is a 1.0 Collector's Edition account as no one has access to 2.O Collector's Edition registration codes.

    August 24th, 2013 ~* The Future *~

    - Receive 2.0 Collector's Edition registration code.
    - Apply Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn registration code to Final Fantasy XIV 1.
    - Final Fantasy XIV 1 has access to Helm of Light, Baby Behemoth, Behemoth Barding, Coeurl Bell
    - Final Fantasy XIV 2 has access to Onion Helm, Helm of Light, Baby Behemoth, Behemoth Barding, Coeurl Bell

continue to ponder which account / character has more progress. Final Fantasy XIV 1 (Open Beta / ARR Open Beta) or Final Fantasy XIV 2 (1.0 Early release account).
Ah-hahaha, even though it is all just plainly true, it was still pretty amusing to read it all at once like that. Thank you for being so detailed and thorough. *sigh* I really mucked things up. My crappy memory isn't helping either. Just one thing I want to clarify, if you'd indulge me a bit further...

You are saying that WHICHEVER account I plant my ARR early access code on, will eventually also be the one my ARR Collector's Edition items will land on? Regardless of the fact that my screenshot shows only "FFXIV 2" as having the ARR Collector's Edition listed? I'm just very curious why FFXIV 1 shows nothing, when FFXIV 2 lists everything...

I'd honestly rather keep my ARR beta progress, I didn't play 1.0 much at all, and for the ARR beta, I very pointedly decided to start new characters and abandon my old 1.0 ones (did not wish to keep their race/appearance etc). My only concern was regarding the association of my ARR collector's edition to one account and not the other. Assuming my early access and following registration plays out as mentioned above, the only thing I'd really be losing by choosing "FFXIV 1" is the Onion Helm, which is bound to one of the characters I don't plan on using any more anyway... right? Because as I recall, only the first character you created in 1.0 gained the onion helm? Making a new character from the same account would not cause this new character to gain an onion helm... or would it, because, new game?

Here I go muddling things up again...

    EDIT!!

I took too long composing this post, and you already clarified my questions. This theory makes sense.

Here's the everything: I played FFXIV 1.0. I pre-ordered the Digital Collector's Edition of FFXIV:ARR for Windows PC, and did so from the Square Enix site. I punched in my 18-digit serial code, and got my Early Access code. When I tried to activate the Early Access code, it asked which service account I would like to apply it to. These were my two options:

Can we trade circumstances? I'm a guy who wants to play multiple characters simultaneously. I went to register a friends code today and I didn't even get the "Choose which Service Account" notification. I've been playing 1.0 since 2012 and I am a legacy member. I know my characters exist but, according to my account, I only have the game that I registered using my friends code. It's really confusing. I'm tempted to wait in line as I try to get a hold of SE support tomorrow morning.

You are saying that WHICHEVER account I plant my ARR early access code on, will eventually also be the one my ARR Collector's Edition items will land on? No. Early access code is actually different from FFXIV: ARR Collector's Edition registration. In game items are tied to FFXIV: ARR registration code. Pre-Order code is given to you by the retailer of your choice prior to release. You essentially have the potential to have two different accounts with very similar benefits since you already purchased a 1.0 Collector's Edition and are currently waiting for the chance to register your FFXIV: ARR benefits. Your Pre-Order code is separate from your FFXIV: ARR benefits. Regardless of the fact that my screenshot shows only "FFXIV 2" as having the ARR Collector's Edition listed? I'm just very curious why FFXIV 1 shows nothing, It shows that you have beta access. FFXIV 2 had beta access by default as you purchased 1.0. FFXIV 2 also has all of the Collector's Edition benefits that 2.0 has because SE didn't want to anger 1.0 Collector's Edition owners since they already purchased a Collector's edition 3 years ago. when FFXIV 2 lists everything It only lists everything because a 1.0 Collector's Edition account comes with everything (except for Legacy Status)...

I'd honestly rather keep my ARR beta progress Cool! Then apply all existing and new codes to Final Fantasy XIV 1, I didn't play 1.0 much at all, and for the ARR beta, I very pointedly decided to start new characters and abandon my old 1.0 ones (did not wish to keep their race/appearance etc).Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. My only concern was regarding the association of my ARR collector's edition to one account and not the other. Your ARR Collector's Edition doesn't have any associations yet as no one has access to ARR registration codes. SE's system is not identifying ARR as a game separate from Final Fantasy XIV. Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 is showing up as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn because Final Fantasy XIV no longer exists. Only Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn exists. Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. Assuming my early access and following registration plays out as mentioned above, the only thing I'd really be losing by choosing "FFXIV 1" is the Onion Helm, which is bound to one of the characters I don't plan on using any more anyway... right? Correct! Phew I'm glad you fixed that as I didn't want you to be confused. Final Fantasy XIV 1 is your Phoenix. Final Fantasy XIV 2 is the ashes. Because as I recall, only the first character you created in 1.0 gained the onion helm? Making a new character from the same account would not cause this new character to gain an onion helm... or would it, because, new game? All characters associated with a 1.0 Collector's Edition account received the onion helm if you applied the Onion Helm registration code to the account.

Here I go muddling things up again... I hope I have clarified some things for you.

I also edited my first in depth post so that you know what to do right now to prepare for the future and the even more futurer.

"Didn't realize that 1.0 Collector's Edition accounts get all the same in game items as 2.0 Collector's Edition" yeah. Fail. I was totally out of the loop until right before open beta and didn't do my research. I got antsy because I was worried about missing the pre-order window and grabbed collector's on default. Too bad I punched in the serial to attain early access code, or I'd refund =P

But then you wouldn't be able to apply all of those goodies to your Open Beta character! A blessing in disguise I'd say.

This is true! The extra money will not have been spent in vain, if I apply it to my ARR beta account

Exact same issue here, spoke with a support agent (whom are useless)

Agent Daniel A: Hello and thank you for contacting SQUARE ENIX Customer Support. Just a few moments while I review your question, please.
Agent Daniel A: While I look over your ticket information, may I have your first name please?
    You: ok thank you
    You: #####
    Agent Daniel A: Hi #####
Agent Daniel A: Unfortunately, we cannot merge service accounts. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
You: Can I somehow remove the 1st account and still get the CE items on my second service account?
You: I dont need the character, I dont even know how the second service account was created
Agent Daniel A: Unfortunately, that is not possible either.
You: I just want my CE items as I bought v1.0
You: So even if I cancel the 1st service account, I cant use my CE 1.0 account key?
You: There are a lot of people who have had the same thing happen to them
Agent Daniel A: May I please have your Square Enix ID?
    You: Sure, Its #####
Agent Daniel A: For security reasons, we are unable to address your account issues without first verifying your identification. Please provide us with as much of the following information that you can:
    Agent Daniel A: Name
    Date of Birth
    Email
    Address (Including City/State/Zip code)
    Phone #
    Token Serial

Agent Daniel A: Thank you, that verifies the account.
You: I have my 1.0 CE key, onion helm key, early access key, and promo code on hand also if that will help
Agent Daniel A: I would recommend, from looking at your account, not cancelling service account #1.
Agent Daniel A: You will receive a free download of A Realm Reborn Collector's Edition on that service account.
Agent Daniel A: And the info on it is not transferrable.
You: Can my character be moved from Service Account #2 to #1?
Agent Daniel A: It cannot. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience.
You: So I either need to start a new character or do without the CE items?
Agent Daniel A: But you would stand to lose a lot by deleting Service Account #1.
Agent Daniel A: Unfortunately, that is correct.
So basically I bought a copy of ARR CE 2.0 to atleast get the items at launch to apply to service account #2. It's crap that they can't move a character from one service account to another under the same Square ID, or cancel one service account and apply the CE 1.0 key to another service account

Blurgh. Yeah, that stinks. I understand them not wanting to transfer characters around between service accounts, but you'd think at least just removing the CE key from one account and applying it to the other would be feasible. *sigh*
