Actually, Many final fantasy have their own version of 'limit break', though not ALl of it have it.

FFVI was kind of not obvious, you would only notice it if your characters were in critical health, then they would make really strong attacks instead of regular attacks. their attacks would also have names. It's something you would notice if you pay attention.

    FFVII: Obviously.

FFVIII: Definitely has it. And I like this FFVIII system too. Basically you get the limit break based on your health, and the lower it is, the more likely you'll be able ot use the limit break. Also, there is a buff called aura that allows you to do so.

FFIX: Trance system. It is based on how much damage you received and deal, it's kind of like TP, but I haven't played FFIX ina LONG time so I can't really say.

FFX: Overdrive system, similar to TRance, kind of.

FFXI: 2hr abilities would be the best way to compare.

FFXII and FFXIII don't SEEM to have something like this.

That said, I feel that FFXIv should definitely have something like this.

FFXII had the Quickening and FFXIII had the "Full ATB skill"(It don't have an official name but it's a powerful move that you can only do with a full bar).

Oh that's right, VIII did have them. I should have remembered that.
I wouldn't call Eidolons or Two Hours or even Quickening perhaps limit breaks though.

I agree with some users that pointed out to you that Limit Breaks aren't really as iconic as you're making them out to be.

Still I think the Battle Regimen system can already do something like this with some fine tweaking. It's pretty clear that the devs meant for BRs to be the endgame strategy... It's just that at the moment they're slightly broken!

I should add, although I don't consider Limit Breaks iconic.. I am not opposed to the idea of their addition. Likewise while I wouldn't compare Two Hours from XI to a limit break, I would be all for something like that being added to XIV.

If you just take the "limit break" then yeah they have been in only 2 games. However if you take all the special attacks that could save you in critical situation then they have appear in different forms in all the game from 6 to 13(the list have been post a few time but you can check it there). I'd say that 8 game out of 14 is enough to be iconic.

I rather likes the 2-hour abilities of FFXI.
In my opinion, I've always considered - in both XI and XIV - TP abilities to be the replacement of 'Limit Breaks' in the games, because they act in the way limit breaks worked in the rest of the series (and for people saying they're not iconic, they are; they're simply named differently in the various games).
But the 2-hour abilities were awesome, and I would definately support a revival of these in FFXIV.
