As stated before, a big part of the problem is that leves are the only meaningful content you can use to rank up.

It is nice to know that a majority of the players posting here would like to see some sort a change away from intentional fails to a better system to maximize sp gain.

I'm all for maximizing SP gain, but when it has to be done in such a way as its being done now, something is not right. The system is obviously not as good as it could be. I believe it is contrary to the spirit yoshi is trying to create with this game, just as he said he doesn't want people to "death warp", as it is not in the spirit of a Final Fantasy game.

Death warping is a valid use of a game mechanic, that Yoshi feels needs to changed. It's not an exploit. Just as failing guildleves is not an exploit either. It's a valid use of a game mechanic, but it is not in the spirit of a Final Fantasy game just as death warping is not. For that reason it should be changed, IMO.

Final Fantasy games are supposed to be about completing quests, completing objectives and progressing to the next goal. Not purposely failing a bunch of stuff because its more efficient. Guildleves need to be overhauled to remove the incentive to fail leves, and to create incentive to complete them. Alexia's idea rocks in this respect. All just my opinion folks, and hopefully you will see that I am not trying to say people should not be failing them or that it's an exploit. I am just stating I do not feel it is in the spirit of the game and needs to be made better. Keep on rockin in the free world (Eorzea).
