I would give many things to have FFXI style combat. Especially for the mage classes. Playing a RDM in XI, I was constantly on the go, with my eyes basically trained on my chat log and recast timers. I had my buff rotations, mob debuffs, cures, and when shit hit the fan, that's when it got really fun. Every person had a defined role that was clearly laid out.

I just don't see it in XIV. All I do is throw up pro/shell now and again, sometimes I don't even bother because we really don't need it; and sit back and toss the occasional cure. Buffing feels pointless, debuffs feel pointless. All I do is keep AOE on, the tank targeted and my fingers over 2 and 3 for cures. Half the time i'm watching TV it's so boring. I wouldn't have dared to do that in XI lest I want to wipe us all.

Also. Kiting. Can I have it? Seriously. Where the fuck is it. It's impossible in this game.

I guess fun is relative. I find this system fun, it can be more challenging, but its fun. The crab parties in casseopia and eft parties in the black shroud were places where the mobs can chew your face off. The fight is there if you look for it.

And really? You've never kited? I haven't played a mage class yet, but I did it yesterday solo on a leve! The ranged attacks make it easier than you might think.

I don't even know how to reply to this, you couldn't be more wrong. How do you kite mobs that instantly leash while you have the clunkiest casting/movement system to ever exist in a MMO? Have you ever tried actually kiting? It's not possible, at all.

I'm also not exactly sure how you think this system can "be more challenging", you don't manage your MP, CDs, hate, positioning, ANYTHING. You mindless spam -ga'd heals/buffs and randomly nuke without a care in the world.

I've tried kiting, I was facing mobs that did not leash in a leve, and I got it to work. I was actually kinda hoping they would leash, but nope, just kept on coming while I had to recover hp on the go.

One word, Dodo. When the game started the dodo was practically legendary for taking out players that had even conned blue to it, before they found out you can POSITION yourself around it, thus avoiding its special attack.

Not enough? Megalocrabs in one of the Gridania Leves, island crabs in Bloodshore. not exactly a maindless affair considering how crabs can assume a guard stance, while the other crabs pound away. I have seen hate stolen away from the tank on several occasions, mostly from either heals or an ambitious archer.
As I said, there are more challenging fights if you look for them. There are mobs and leves with mobs that are more than a match for any party. Just how challenging, honestly was FFXI in an exp party, if those level 75-80 mobs were being floored by the hundreds in merit parties and TP burn parties, in many of them crowd control was the only thing keep it going.

Let me repeat that for you: Many exp parties in FFXI got their loads of kills by handling one mob at a time, having all other "adds" bound, slept, or otherwise rendered harmless.

There are mobs in FFXIV at and past that level, are they being taken out with similar impunity by lvl 50s? I haven't seen nor heard of it.

But, they are revamping FFXIV's system, they said they are revamping the system. I'd rather it not be one with auto attack, but I'll wait and see.

If ffxiv leves are so fun, why are people so drained after 2-3 hours of it. In ffxi, I partied 18 hours straight with very short breaks for food and bathroom no problem.

I think its the constant running around vs standing in one area pulling mobs to you.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

This. It makes you wonder why do ffxi vets hate leves so much when all we did before was stand in one spot for hours killing the same thing. At least now we get to move with some added variety. >.> lol

The main problem is most people are sick of those kind of grinds. Most games you have to grind for levels but there are a lot of ways to make it more enjoyable. Leves also are for casuals but since it's really the ONLY content people are annoyed. Once there is more to do those with time won't care and those with little would request more balance and to add more of a variety.

Probably because that's how long it took to gain a level.

Yeah I agree 10000% with you. What exactly does a mage do in this game? Do you manage your MP? Nope! Do you manage your hate? Nope! Do you manage your spell usage/cds? Nope! Do you manage your debuffs or buffs? Nope!

Basically they designed mages in this game for people with downs I guess? It's really annoying.

This games combat system is boring for everyone, I'm passively looking at my 2nd monitor not even tabbed into the game reading forums/watching streams/watching movies etc because I don't have to pay attention AT ALL to ANYTHING. This game is beyond hello kitty easymode, it's taken easy to the extreme. It angers me so much that this games difficulty is such a joke, especially after playing FF11.

The kiting thing is really stupid too, kiting was another one of the really fun and high skill cap things you could do in FF11, yet they completely remove it from this game? Really? LOL?

When I was leveling my ninja in FF11, I could not type and play it, I had to pay 100% attention to everything or I'd die, I wouldn't keep hate, etc etc. How can you go from something so complex, so hard, to the crap we have in FF14?

I invite anyone, I don't notice if anyone sucks, no one cares if someone sucks because it's impossible to be "Bad" at this game. This game is basically playable by anyone with an IQ over 40 with at least 1 working hand. I really don't get it, I'm hoping the auto-attack/combat system revamp fixes it, because this is completely retarded.
