Yeah, let me add more stars to the leve so I don't gain more SP than the capped amount it was at when it was hello kitty easymode level, right?

The SP you gain from leve mobs caps at a VERY low amount of stars, making it pointless to make it harder. You gain the same SP when they're mobs that die in 2 hits that you do when mobs are actually difficult. The combat/mob/difficulty/exp system is completely broken and needs revamped.

In response to OP: It is obvious to a vast majority that FFXI combat system was very much indeed slow in pace. Only certain job/subjob combos left the player with much to do besides waiting for AA. XIV combat is a lot faster compared to XI and to think otherwise is just crazy talk. Currently the speed of the system compared to XI and ,the father with many children, WoW(from slowest to fastest)... XI - XIV - WoW

The pace of combat only increased for all jobs once you stacked massive amounts of haste. XIV having a spammy feel is another topic of its own.

Akumu, no, you are completely wrong. You don't do anything in this game, you basically spam 1-3 buttons. You don't manage your hate, you don't try to stun abilities the mob does, you don't predict damage, you don't debuff, you don't keep a buff cycle up, you don't -na silences/para's instantly preventing your tank from dying, you don't try to avoid damage so you don't mp sponge, you don't MANAGE MP(wtf seriously),you don't count/manage shadows, you don't cure inbetween mob attacks(takes perfect timing),you don't cast inbetween mob attacks, you don't WS after someone else does to skillchain with them without actually timing it with text/asking other person their TP for increased threat as a tank, you aren't keeping track of mob respawns in your head so you know where to go to pull the next mob so you keep the chain, you aren't constantly looking around for mob respawns, you aren't judging when you should disengage to go pull another mob and if youll bring it back before the current mob dies(perfectly timing it or tanking it for a few seconds with ichi - > ichi or ni - > ichi - > ichi - > ni etc), you aren't trying to keep an exp chain going, you aren't timing all your burst/ws/cds to kill a mob really fast to keep the chain going when a pull took too long, you aren't pacing yourself to keep up with the mob respawn rate so you can keep the chain, etc etc. I could go on FOREVER.

You pretty much do nothing. You can zone out and not pay attention at all and play this game perfectly fine.

How about this? FFXI might not have been faster, but each action I took felt alot more tactical and meaningful as opposed to most of the skills in FFXIV being boring and direct damage skills.

As a DRK/SAM I had alot to do between watching for stun, using WS, absorbing TP and meditating, using my buffs like Last resort or Souleater at the right times to kill a mob and not take too much hate, draining or aspiring, absorbing a stat to buff a WS

    You get the picture?

Though I will agree the overall reason FFXI was more enjoyable was because it felt less clunky

I'm gonna assume you started to reply before I edited my post because I agree with you. The game can be spammy but I feel thats a flaw in yet another incomplete system in XIV. However, I wouldn't compare that to XI stating it was not slow in pace or claim XI was faster than XIV. To me the battle pace and "spammy feel" of XIV are two different issues. XI was less spammy but it has a slow battle system.

Oh, yeah, probably. I prefer the strategic/slower combat system of FF11 to this spammy boring snoozefest combat system personally

Why do u say that? I like slow style of combat but I didn't enjoy FFXIV at all - too many things happening during a battle
