I think we're just all frustrated to see a system (that should never have been implemented without the basic features everyone is requesting) in place without info from dev's that things are actively being done to remedy the situation, but instead are given festivals to get swimsuits...etc...
At least they've finally acknowledged that not only is there an issue but that they're looking at doing something about it.....That's better than the traditional smack-you-head-on-a-wall-because-you're-so-annoyed-at-the-unhelpful-response "we're aware of it" stance that SE tend to use.Originally Posted by Mocchi
I spoke with Minagawa regarding the linkshell list and friends list.
The dev. team is well aware of the issues with the linkshell list and friends list, but it’s going to be very difficult to address in its current state. Therefore, the devs are going to be performing a complete overhaul of the system. With this overhaul, the team is planning to add functions that have been previously requested by the community. These functions include LS messages, the ability to remove players from the linkshell, more variations of LS crests, etc.
There are certain functions that he could add in the current state of the system, but considering how it ties to the communication within the LS, it needs to be checked thoroughly. Therefore, it isn’t something that can be implemented immediately.
I apologize for the inconvenience these issues may be causing, but we promise to improve the LS list, friends list, companies, searching for other players, etc. With these improvements, we believe the communication between the players will become much easier than it is in its current state.
With that said, we would like you to continue providing feedback.
Most of us know that the FFXI LS system would and should have been a good place to start for the basics (if it worked with PS2 limitations it would have worked with PS3 limitations for those that like to use that excuse) but we also all know that there are plenty of things that the original dev team and Tanaka should have done but didn't. No point going over the same old ground - it's been done to death on these forums, and what's done (or not done, depending on how you look at it, lol) is done and we need to try and move on.
The new dev team and Yoshi-P are working to fix it all, but unfortunately it takes time (if you ripped out all the non-viable bits, the game is probably around 50%-75% ready for "launch".....and considering they took 5 years to get to last September, I reckon it'll be another good 1.5-2 years before they finish all the catch up work), and I can't see the dev's putting more than 1-2 people on the issue until all the major other overhauls (battle system, job system, materia system, crafting, battle regimens, attributes...etc....) are done with (and if I had to guess, we're looking at past 1.20-1.21).
With the time it's taking to release such massive patches (1.18 in July and 1.19 due end September)......I wouldn't expect any significant progress on the LS features front until next Spring, maybe even Summer, unless more people get allocated to work on them.
It frustrates me so much.....but it's out of our hands, so let's wait and see how long they take and what they give us. Because I think a lot of people are going to be very unhappy with anything less than perfection on this front when it's implemented because of the wait......
I just hope they can get the server software or hardware upgrades done by end of 2011 or early spring 2012... Earlier the better but don't want the new dev team to rush and releasing something that didn't go through the necessary bug checks and other test.
Us telling SE to hurry up! is just like us being like SE Marketing/CEO who pushed FFXIV team to release the game half ass when it first released.
Only thing I ask them is to give us a road map (which I guess they said will try and do after the summer so around Oct??)
What we can expect after the server software/hardware changes. If they really want to sell this game for the PS3 like they are saying without the server fix it won't do any good so hopefully more info soon....
nope !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I don't claim in any way to understand the programming that is involved in this type of system, I still don't understand why they cannot alter the current system to add the option to oust LS members when they are a far distance from you or offline.
Currently you can kick a member from the LS if they are online and in the same area as you, so to expand that option wouldn't it be as simple as removing the distance restrictions from the current programming code? As I said I don't really understand how this all works, but it seems like this particular feature should be simple enough to add, it would actually be removing something from the programming code rather than adding to it would it not?
So while the overhaul of this system would be great and I would love to have the option to use LS messages, etc, I REALLY think that SE should consider fixing the conditions under which you can oust someone from the LS. Having to do reshells constantly to remove inactive members, especially when the player base for the game fluctuates rather frequently because on the current state of the game, can be extremely annoying. The rest of the features we CAN wait for, but this should have always been available, and should be implemented while we wait for the rest.
So, they are going to now spend time working on a 'achievements' system which is a new shiny feature instead of taking the time and fixing the stupid, broken and backwards LS administration system / underlying infrastructure.
Seriously, what is the logic behind all of this, it doesn't make any sense.
We have been begging and asking for this since beta, yet we are still getting nothing.

There are times when two pieces of code can result in similar functions (inviting into LS and inviting in to parties or friendlists), but be very different fundamentally in how they work underneath the surface. It seems like such a trivial fix to do, and I've been railing on SE myself for the past year, but if they haven't given even a text command fix to this huge problem by now, I tend to think that it's a much larger problem to fix than it appears to us.
If it really were that easy to fix, they probably would have done it a long time ago. Doesn't make the situation any less frustrating for the customers, however.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.
