I excluded Dragon Kick as I'm not yet 50 and I do not have it, but even then it doesn't really change anything - just another skill you'll have to cycle through.
Not likely, to keep optimal power pre-50 (no dragon kick rotation) you get about 1 free skill "do what you want" skill in the 3forms rotation. And this is assuming you keep up twin snake at every possible rotation.

you refresh grease, twin is 12 seconds. that means unless you have a very very stable opponent, you are likely to extend it to 4 skills without loosing any one of those buffs. You maybe able to extend a 5th one with the skill speed up, but you usually end up hitting the animation wall, when you add in buff stacking (animations count if even if GCD doesn't) So anything more is theoretical bickering on "possible". This isn't even considering to have to add in "error correction" because all stuff is applied at the end of the animation, not the beginning.

So except for burst damage scenarios (buff-spam) for consistent damage rotation, you want only weave in 1 extra skill from rap-cou-oppo.

So while people want to be l33t and use all these complicated rotations... a simple 3+1 step rotation will net you 99% mnk powerness.

Hey! checking in to the pug/mnk thread.

I have a few noobish question I guess about the class. I'm currently at level 28 as a pug and im wondering if when I hit 30 should I immediately start working to unlock Mnk or should I finish off pug to 50 first for some of the skills?

Also I'm wondering on any tips you use when soloing. I've found I can still hit all of the flank/ rear requirements in a one on one fight, albeit it's a bit harder then when there is a tank, and I'm wondering if there are any tricks on how to move the opponent to make this easier. It helps a lot with dropping the enemies faster especially when your in an area where you can pull a few at a time and as of right now my only aoe is arm of the destroyer....which is just sad for its tp cost.

While you are MNK, your PGL level will also increase. Your PGL level is your MNK level, and vice-versa.

In terms of skills, PGL skills will unlock automatically and MNK skills have to be quested.

Edit: although you will need to quest your lv.15 and 30 PGL skills too!

[QUOTE=J_Burton;1121506]Hey! checking in to the pug/mnk thread.

I got Lancer to 15 in beta phase 4 to get it out of the way so I could unlock Monk the second I hit 30. Your job quests provide EXP that you would miss out on if you left it to 50. Also you will unlock pugilist abilities even when you are a Monk, as a Monk is the job an actual base class. The job quests also unlock Monk abilities.

For soloing to be honest I find it tricky to meet the flanking and rear requirements all the time unless an enemy is charging a special attack because normally they track you perfectly. In party play though the Monk is a beast Monk doesn't learn any other AOE unfortunately u nless you count Rock Breaker which does damage in a cone in front of you or Howling Fist ( which does damage in a straight line in front of you) which you learn at level 46.

    Hope this helps somewhat

It does very much, also thank you and thanks to almalexia for the info about leveling pug while being in the mnk job, very good to know.

On the flanking/ rear requirements it is tricky, but rewarding when pulled off haha. It really all depends on the enemies auto attack animation, which I've noticed we pug/mnk have some of the longest lol. The only trick I've really found so far is to learn the timing between an enemies auto attacks. Right as it's about to go off, position yourself to get the flank/ rear bonus as they freeze in place during their attack animations. This makes true strike a lot easier to land over bot shine since bot's animation is considerably longer =(. If anyone has any other tricks let me know =)

Definitely need to test this next time I'm on but it can be difficult for me to judge animations because I suffer from the dreaded lag sometimes. The amount of times I've thought I was well clear of an AOE only to realize I still got hit anyway because of the delay. But I think landing a Bootshine and continuing your rotation to get your Greased Lightning buffs should be priority over cross class skills unless you have enough time to fit them them in between/during rotations.

After all with enough Greased Lightning stack cross classed skills do more damage ;D
