The Monk Temple

Hi, I've been doing some reading and I'm still confused about how to reach the Monk job. I read that it takes a lvl 30 pug and lvl 15 lancer, However in game Hammon suggests you try out the Gladiator or the Thaumaturge or stay as the Pug. Then to make things even more confusing a few ppl have told me it doesn't matter what job you take and that by lvl 25 you can get Monk.

I'm in Ul'dah and the only trainers I have found are for the Glad and Thau and Pug. I'm currently lvl 16.

You need to have a level 30 pug and 15 lancer to unlock monk. The quest NPC is in the goldsmith guild and should talk to you once you hit 30 on pug.
