Here's how I see it: my character was in Limsa when the Calamity happened (which is true, that's the last place I logged out.) But, she then traveled through Ul'dah to fight the empire when they attacked the city. She has no memory of this (as it was unsaved content after Nov. 1.) However, her spirit, along with many others was already absorbed by whatever magic it was that we see in the end of an era movie, which is why she has no memory for a short time. In my own story she traveled home for five years to recover. She remembers things from the world before. It's everyone else who doesn't remember her, and even if she tells them they won't remember. That's part of the magic that made everyone forget.

Mh, I don't now. I mean, it is possible. If it was a recent decision contrary to the original plans, maybe something went wrong, like so:

    1. The "bug" was first reported in Beta 3 when we could test the import of our chars for the first time, then again during Phase 4 and finally during headstart.

    2. They planned on fixing it in some way and did so after Phase 3 was over.

    3. In Phase 4, the fix didn't work as planned, plus now they only had 1 more week until launch and the trouble with the servers started.

    4. The server congestion and troubles only became even bigger during headstart, which was obviously the highest priority to fix.

    5. By the time the additonal server structure came online during the wednesday downtime, it was deemd too late to attempt to fix the bug since people had started playing with their characters, and since there was no way for them to fix it without resetting the chars to the last 1.0 savestate (which surely would have pissed off a lot of people as well) they chose to change the official prereqs and hope not too many people mind it.

But since some adamant still people wanted a clarification and kept at it, they finally decided to give a statement that maybe wouldn't please everybody, but enough people so that they could chalk it off as an issue.

I mean, honestly, how many people would be okay if their 1.0 chars were reset again, even if it would fix the bug and make them experience the story as it was originally intended? I would, but I doubt many others would see it the same way.

Mind you, all of this is pure speculation on my part, in my case born out of a severe dissapointment. (I play the game for the story and to be in a game with my guild. And the story part has taken a severe hit, since I simply cannot enjoy the story as I would like to.)

    My suggestion to SE:

Allow people who have a legacy character of at least level 20 in one base class (since this would be about the level at which you finished the city story and met Minfilia for the first time if memory serves correctly) and still want this "fixed", even if it is not seen as a bug by you, to open a ticket with support or otherwise get in contact with you and specifically ask for their chars to be reset again and flagged appropriately so they experience the legacy version of the story. The amount of people will likely be low, so not too much extra work. You could do it during one of the next downtimes, so you wouldn't have to take down the servers specifically for it.

Now, some will say "this would fix it early on but the story later on with the Legate etc. won't make sense", which is true. But I believe it should be the peoples choice, not SE dictating it. Plus, I can far more easily believe that some NPCs in late story mistake me for someone else than it is for me to believe everyone and their pet chocobo have completly forgotten about me, including myself appearantly (as I never speak up about it).

Of course, it would be even better if they split it in half and made it so that every 1.0 char is treated as "known"/"remembered" by the early NPCs up to Minfilia and only after that point, it depends on finished quests. This would be a good compromise in my book.

Anyways, I strangely find it more interesting to talk about this here on the forum than to actually play right now. Makes me sad, really, but as a story junkie, it is very hard for me to just look past it.

That's what I'm thinking. It was reported so long ago, and even accepted as a bug. I think they intended to fix it, then something happened, so they finally decided to just tell us that it's supposed to be this way.

It said "legacy players" not "legacy players who completed up to a certain point" would get different scenes. There is no explanation for what we're supposed to be, then. We're not new. We did many various things leading up to the calamity, including taking part in battles against the empire, helping Urianger when no one else believed him, assisting Minfilia and the others, etc... There were people who knew my name and talked about how great I was. Even if we didn't get to the transmitter and whatnot, there's no reason for so many people to just forget about all of the things we DID do, and not know us at all. There's no reason our names shouldn't already be in the book, when we signed it there before.

Again, I guess it just has to be accepted now, but it seems silly to believe it was meant to be this way all along.

    That would have been better.
See, this is a good idea. I understand that if I didn't get to that last quest, I won't understand when someone refers to it. But there's no reason for Minfilia to treat me like a total stranger when we've done so much before. Especially with the Echo...

Of course, this is probably just too much work, so we've got what we have now. :\

You guys had to be told this? I thought this was obvious. No "united we stand" = not stopping the garlean plot to bring the moon down and them harnessing it's powers. No "to kill a raven" means nael van darnus is still alive. When the end was announced and it was announced that the end was the friggin MOON FALLING FROM ORBIT, my wife and I, with our 1 level 50 job, wrestled a team of, literally, barely level 50 geared people together and we went through the story line in a month's time to stop it from happening. We even had time for me to level blm to I can help other's with their white raven fight. I've spent hours sitting out side castrum novem (or how ever that's spell) as whm just to raise people if they failed so they can try again without running through that place again.

I'm pretty sure they did tell us at one point that certain quests needed to be done for 2.0. But even if they didn't, how was this not obvious?

No issues on my end thankfully. Stayed with 1.0 all the way. Only thing I missed was the White Raven's so that is not needed.

hint: CS just before Garuda fight in ARR will have very close tie to White Raven event. A certain someone will fully recovered his memories and remembered what he & player did during White Raven, which he add his regret later that it doesn't prevent calamity after all.

You misunderstand. I haven't seen anyone here ask for special scenes for what they didn't achieve in version 1. It's just that we were led to expect a special opening scene for returning v1 characters. Instead, our v1 characters return with no explanation at all. They're not returning from being teleported. They're not new characters. They're an anomaly the game conveniently ignores by tossing into the "new character, never played v1" basket.

If our characters weren't at Carteneau, they should be remembered in full. Not only because the magic only blocked what happened there, but also because our characters would have been spending the last 5 years continuing our adventures, or at least assisting those same NPCs to rebuild the Eorzea that we see today.

It would have been nice to see the game NPCs somehow acknowledge that our characters had been in v1, and even better if we could discover what happened, how we arrived in ARR without teleportation and with all our old stuff and old memories. But I wouldn't presume to put more work on the devs dealing with bigger stuff and already looking towards the future of ARR. However, I do hope that the questions can be resolved as a matter of lore, because even the best suggestions so far are still full of holes and unsupported by game lore.

Also, just to nitpick in general, as a point of story, only 8 adventurers fought the 7th umbral era quest battles. So when the NPCs say "all those adventurers at Carteneau", they don't mean just the 8 that defeated Nael, etc.

Do you have your equipment still? Your job abilities? You legacy mark? Then you were in 1.0. And Yoshida said that the derplander's party is a representation of us. If you want to nitpick, you're saying that the first players ever to beat Nael only should get the new cutscene. Being remembered doesn't change the story line. You get maybe one or two things different.

And yes, they may not say that outright, but they are asking for scenes that they didn't achieve in 1.0. They're saying they should have seen the legacy scene when they didn't beat United We Stand. That's asking for special scenes they didn't achieve.

    Counter Question:

I was the one who was there with them when Yda and Papalymo originally came to Gridania and crashed with their airship (and later on we were attacked by wolves and a treant). I helped Urianger (when noone else would) and Milfina during 1.0. I signed Mother Miounnes guild ledger and got her linkpearl... So, why shouldn't these NPCs remember me? After all, the amnesia magic only erases the memories of the warriors of light. And if I ain't one, why should they forget? Or at least not be able to remember with a hint or two from me?

I am not asking to be recognized by NPCs I never met. But I am asking to be recognized by those I met and helped. And I am equally asking where the hell I have been in those 5 years....
