What if you weren't saved by Louisoix and instead the big crystal saved you but struck everything about you from existence and remembrance? Because you were a warrior who's time hadn't come yet? So instead of perishing on the battlefield you were then reborn back into the world 5 years later and decided to head back to your home city state?(Answer I've been here before)

Yet since the Crystal feared the possibility of alerting enemies of the world (Imperials, Primals, Beast clans) it had to wipe your existence. However since it wasn't Louisoix's spell that was cast upon you, you weren't returned to where everyone else was but instead had to make the journey back to your city-state of choice alone.

I mean, upon that battlefield there had to be a ton of missing soldiers among the many dead right?

Though an interesting idea from SE, it has been implemented terribly. Very disappointed in the choices they made. That a development team chooses to go forward thinking something like this is fine is rather shameful. It certainly doesn't ruin the game, but it speaks a lot to some of the decision making that went into story development. As was said, at least it has been explained, but it's a black mark against SE for their choices and method of handling this.

In the End of an Era cutscene, Louisoix harnesses the power of the prayer stones to trap Bahamut but it fails. In a last ditch effort, Louisoix harnesses the power of the prayer stones to send various adventurers 5 years into the future. We need to assume that 1.0 players that did not reach the point of the storyline where they prayed at the prayer stones; were never sent 5 years into the future.

We know that everyone who was not sent into the future had their memories wiped. Thus, we need to assume that 5 years go by, and those who never completed the 7th umbral storyline arrive at their respective starting capitals with absolutely no memory of the previous adventures they partook in during 1.0. Tragic? Sure. But it makes sense.
But Louisoix's stone pilgrimage wasn't to send the player into the future specifically - that was a final, last resort done on impulse, and utilized Althyk's power alone. The stone pilgrimage was required for the summoning of the Twelve to reseal Bahamut (which of course, as we all know by now, failed miserably). And it seems a little too cushy to assume that from a story perspective only those who defeated van Darnus were sent into the future simply because they defeated van Darnus. What about those other adventurers at Cartenau who gave their lives to stop the Garleans? (the End of an Era trailer shows many other adventurers there, many of which don't have Jobs) Aren't they equally deserving? What about those who preferred to level crafting and gathering classes? Are crafters and gatherers punished story wise simply because they chose more pacifistic pursuits?

Also npcs haven't had their memories completely wiped of the Calamity - they know how it happened and what took place in Carteneau - it's just the climax of the battle no one remembers (namely, the identity of the adventurers who took part in the battle, what happened to Louisoix, and what stopped Bahamut's rampage). The fact that those 1.0 characters who got the new character opening don't speak up to npcs when they're mistaken for a new adventurer doesn't mean they too are affected with amnesia - whose to say they're equally confused as those who got the Legacy opening? (and in hindsight, I can sort of write off people like Miounne not remembering Enki because most of her encounters with her in 1.0 were through the Echo anyway as it transpired). And why do even those who got the Legacy opening still start the game with the same new racial gear as those who ride the chocobo carriage into town with the stupid merchant, which are called 'unusual'?

It's not that I'm disappointed at not getting the special opening for my character, it's just characters from 1.0 who did not not get that opening just seem to have been hand waved away as a new character when we actually are not, and have had no story explanation for it. I don't mean to sound ungrateful to SE's writing staff, but it comes across as lazy writing sadly, that the large majority of 1.0 players have been kind of stuck between two narratives neither of which truly concern them if what SE's confirmation has us believe (Legacy opening and new character). Ah well, I guess being a roleplayer I can come up with some canon-fitting explanation for my character to fill in these shortcomings.

Well, looking back through the 6th Astral Era log on the character info bit on the site, I did indeed complete that part of the quest line.

"Takane Shijou has completed the Immortal Flames quest "United We Stand (Ul'dah)"!

    And also:

"Takane Shijou has acted jointly with members of other Grand Companies to destroy the lunar transmitter inside Castrum Novum!"

Still didn't see the alternate opening. Not really that big of a deal, just wondering if there's more prerequisites to seeing it than just that. I did move servers and change my character a bit from 1.0, but not sure if that'd have an effect on it.

Dalamund Horn was not hard mode only. It was for completing the story beyond the standard Van Darnus fight. Hard mode gave the earring that SE decided to make useless in ARR.

So basically my legacy mark means nothing, and since I'm not a warrior of light I should not have been forgotten, But yet I'm completely new to Eorzea?

My head hurts. What's the point of being "legacy" if you're not remembered as such? I'm sorry, but this actually managed to piss me off. I'm not some green adventurer nobody who just happens to be skilled in various classes. Since I did not get teleported, I should not have been forgotten. Therefore I should still be recognized by people. Ugh...

Here's how I see it: my character was in Limsa when the Calamity happened (which is true, that's the last place I logged out.) But, she then traveled through Ul'dah to fight the empire when they attacked the city. She has no memory of this (as it was unsaved content after Nov. 1.) However, her spirit, along with many others was already absorbed by whatever magic it was that we see in the end of an era movie, which is why she has no memory for a short time. In my own story she traveled home for five years to recover. She remembers things from the world before. It's everyone else who doesn't remember her, and even if she tells them they won't remember. That's part of the magic that made everyone forget.

Mh, I don't now. I mean, it is possible. If it was a recent decision contrary to the original plans, maybe something went wrong, like so:

    1. The "bug" was first reported in Beta 3 when we could test the import of our chars for the first time, then again during Phase 4 and finally during headstart.

    2. They planned on fixing it in some way and did so after Phase 3 was over.

    3. In Phase 4, the fix didn't work as planned, plus now they only had 1 more week until launch and the trouble with the servers started.

    4. The server congestion and troubles only became even bigger during headstart, which was obviously the highest priority to fix.

    5. By the time the additonal server structure came online during the wednesday downtime, it was deemd too late to attempt to fix the bug since people had started playing with their characters, and since there was no way for them to fix it without resetting the chars to the last 1.0 savestate (which surely would have pissed off a lot of people as well) they chose to change the official prereqs and hope not too many people mind it.

But since some adamant still people wanted a clarification and kept at it, they finally decided to give a statement that maybe wouldn't please everybody, but enough people so that they could chalk it off as an issue.

I mean, honestly, how many people would be okay if their 1.0 chars were reset again, even if it would fix the bug and make them experience the story as it was originally intended? I would, but I doubt many others would see it the same way.

Mind you, all of this is pure speculation on my part, in my case born out of a severe dissapointment. (I play the game for the story and to be in a game with my guild. And the story part has taken a severe hit, since I simply cannot enjoy the story as I would like to.)

    My suggestion to SE:

Allow people who have a legacy character of at least level 20 in one base class (since this would be about the level at which you finished the city story and met Minfilia for the first time if memory serves correctly) and still want this "fixed", even if it is not seen as a bug by you, to open a ticket with support or otherwise get in contact with you and specifically ask for their chars to be reset again and flagged appropriately so they experience the legacy version of the story. The amount of people will likely be low, so not too much extra work. You could do it during one of the next downtimes, so you wouldn't have to take down the servers specifically for it.

Now, some will say "this would fix it early on but the story later on with the Legate etc. won't make sense", which is true. But I believe it should be the peoples choice, not SE dictating it. Plus, I can far more easily believe that some NPCs in late story mistake me for someone else than it is for me to believe everyone and their pet chocobo have completly forgotten about me, including myself appearantly (as I never speak up about it).

Of course, it would be even better if they split it in half and made it so that every 1.0 char is treated as "known"/"remembered" by the early NPCs up to Minfilia and only after that point, it depends on finished quests. This would be a good compromise in my book.

Anyways, I strangely find it more interesting to talk about this here on the forum than to actually play right now. Makes me sad, really, but as a story junkie, it is very hard for me to just look past it.

See this here. I like this idea very much and with that, I'll be letting this happen with my chara. Now if only I had a word processor... and more space on the blog? Oo
