But Louisoix's stone pilgrimage wasn't to send the player into the future specifically - that was a final, last resort done on impulse, and utilized Althyk's power alone. The stone pilgrimage was required for the summoning of the Twelve to reseal Bahamut (which of course, as we all know by now, failed miserably). And it seems a little too cushy to assume that from a story perspective only those who defeated van Darnus were sent into the future simply because they defeated van Darnus. What about those other adventurers at Cartenau who gave their lives to stop the Garleans? (the End of an Era trailer shows many other adventurers there, many of which don't have Jobs) Aren't they equally deserving? What about those who preferred to level crafting and gathering classes? Are crafters and gatherers punished story wise simply because they chose more pacifistic pursuits?
Also npcs haven't had their memories completely wiped of the Calamity - they know how it happened and what took place in Carteneau - it's just the climax of the battle no one remembers (namely, the identity of the adventurers who took part in the battle, what happened to Louisoix, and what stopped Bahamut's rampage). The fact that those 1.0 characters who got the new character opening don't speak up to npcs when they're mistaken for a new adventurer doesn't mean they too are affected with amnesia - whose to say they're equally confused as those who got the Legacy opening? (and in hindsight, I can sort of write off people like Miounne not remembering Enki because most of her encounters with her in 1.0 were through the Echo anyway as it transpired). And why do even those who got the Legacy opening still start the game with the same new racial gear as those who ride the chocobo carriage into town with the stupid merchant, which are called 'unusual'?
It's not that I'm disappointed at not getting the special opening for my character, it's just characters from 1.0 who did not not get that opening just seem to have been hand waved away as a new character when we actually are not, and have had no story explanation for it. I don't mean to sound ungrateful to SE's writing staff, but it comes across as lazy writing sadly, that the large majority of 1.0 players have been kind of stuck between two narratives neither of which truly concern them if what SE's confirmation has us believe (Legacy opening and new character). Ah well, I guess being a roleplayer I can come up with some canon-fitting explanation for my character to fill in these shortcomings.
