Interesting how long it takes people to jump at each others throats :x
On the subject: The method SE used might be money grabbing but let's consider for a moment that they are producing this game to also make just that: money.
Can't blame them to charge for such a service.
The argument that you got seperated from your friends is only half-valid too if you ask me because this was a Beta Phase and not wiping the character data completely was already a nod in our direction from SE. Dremic had a point saying people were too impatient to wait until character generation on a specific server opened again, granted SE's communication about opening/closing chargen really sucked tho but they were too busy ignoring 3102 and 90000 i think![]()
I was not aware that if a server was locked it would become unlocked at a later time.
But I am aware that people have paid between 30-80 dollars for the game. And then will be paying between 10-15 dollars a month. It's not exactly like this game is free. So SE will be making plenty of money from the people playing who want to do transfers because they got separated .
I think one free server transfer would be more fair. But implementing a system that separates people from each other than a week or two later charging them to transfer servers to be back together. That's greedy.
Weren't there rumors they might plan this anyway for people from Open Beta?
I can relate to your point, Crovax, it's definately not a nice move from them.
SE did announce in their statements that Character Generation Locking was temporarely tho.
The question would rather be: Why did you create a character on any random world instead of the one that you and your friends agreed on and complain now that you don't get to transfer it for free? Shouldn't you have instead informed yourself why you can't and when you can create a character there again?
It's like ordering a cone of vanilla ice and complaining afterwards you didn't get chocolate.
It's not SE's task to do the research and thinking for you.
Where was that announced at? Because I did not see that message. If it was posted on the forums somewhere that is great for the people on the forums but not so much for the people not there. Especially since all my friends started playing during the open beta so I doubt they visited the website/forums at all. When a message says, "Character creation is closed for this server" They likely took it for what it said (The same way I did).
Your analogy is completely wrong. We are not complaining that we are on separate servers. We are complaining that they have the ability to transfer servers and we paid between 30-80 dollars and will be paying 10-15 dollars a month and they want to charge us money to transfer servers when it is the system they implemented that caused most people to be separated from their friends/family in the first place.
Like Dremic pointed out(even tho his words could have been more carefully picked), it was announced on their twitter which was generally the source they would post information to first. On FFXIV.com there's even a button on the upper left for it and a live twitter feed with the newest information. So your friends would only have to had visited ffxiv.com.
So you are complaining that server transfers cost money at all? Or are you complaining that you have to pay in this special case which some believe is your own fault to begin with?
@Zynol: Yes i know what you mean. My friends and me had the same issue about joining Sargatanas but we communicated to each other and they will make new characters as soon as possible and/or transfer.

I would agree with you if the server notice said, "Check our twitter, or google what is happening". But it didn't. I don't use twitter. Unless it told me to I wouldn't have gone there. I didn't expect the game to lie to me so when it said the server's character creation was closed I didn't think, "They might be lying perhaps I should google it, and look it up on their twitter".
The fact that we are paying between 30-80 dollars and then 10-15 a month for a game and then they are going to charge us more money for a service we would only need because of the system they implemented.
If you didn't visit the website or forums during beta, then you did it wrong. Even though its an open beta, the point is to find and report bugs. If you weren't doing that, then you shouldn't have been playing anyway. d(^_^)Where was that announced at? Because I did not see that message. I thought the last phase of beta (Normally the one that is open) is a stress test? And it was what, 3 days long? Not exactly the phase to be looking for bugs. Not saying people shouldn't have looked for bugs just that wasn't the point of that phase of the beta.
