Interesting how long it takes people to jump at each others throats :x
On the subject: The method SE used might be money grabbing but let's consider for a moment that they are producing this game to also make just that: money.
Can't blame them to charge for such a service.
The argument that you got seperated from your friends is only half-valid too if you ask me because this was a Beta Phase and not wiping the character data completely was already a nod in our direction from SE. Dremic had a point saying people were too impatient to wait until character generation on a specific server opened again, granted SE's communication about opening/closing chargen really sucked tho but they were too busy ignoring 3102 and 90000 i think![]()
I was not aware that if a server was locked it would become unlocked at a later time.
But I am aware that people have paid between 30-80 dollars for the game. And then will be paying between 10-15 dollars a month. It's not exactly like this game is free. So SE will be making plenty of money from the people playing who want to do transfers because they got separated .
I think one free server transfer would be more fair. But implementing a system that separates people from each other than a week or two later charging them to transfer servers to be back together. That's greedy.
Weren't there rumors they might plan this anyway for people from Open Beta?
I can relate to your point, Crovax, it's definately not a nice move from them.
SE did announce in their statements that Character Generation Locking was temporarely tho.
The question would rather be: Why did you create a character on any random world instead of the one that you and your friends agreed on and complain now that you don't get to transfer it for free? Shouldn't you have instead informed yourself why you can't and when you can create a character there again?
It's like ordering a cone of vanilla ice and complaining afterwards you didn't get chocolate.
It's not SE's task to do the research and thinking for you.
Where was that announced at? Because I did not see that message. If it was posted on the forums somewhere that is great for the people on the forums but not so much for the people not there. Especially since all my friends started playing during the open beta so I doubt they visited the website/forums at all. When a message says, "Character creation is closed for this server" They likely took it for what it said (The same way I did).
Your analogy is completely wrong. We are not complaining that we are on separate servers. We are complaining that they have the ability to transfer servers and we paid between 30-80 dollars and will be paying 10-15 dollars a month and they want to charge us money to transfer servers when it is the system they implemented that caused most people to be separated from their friends/family in the first place.
Jaeral, from my experience people were scrambling to get onto a server have get a good grip on the game and level the jobs they wanted to level. When you think of a game that charges a monthly fee people try to do as much as possible in a short amount of time. So getting on any server during open beta seems like the only option, especially when SE didnt really reveal much in terms of future options.
In my own experience a lot of friends got separated and some to this day are going to remain on the server they "ended up on" so I will never get to play with them. That's not SE's fault REALLY, so I don't blame them its just an example of some of the issues people are having.
Being Legacy I am HAPPY to pay for MY transfer (and sacrifice my Gil, since SE mentioned that, & not that I have a lot or care anyways) but I don't think the Open Beta people should have to pay for their first transfer due to the issues.

I see the beta forum spirit lives on strong here :3 Thank god for post limits in the rest of the forum.
Hmm...ok lets be honest here, we are only paying 12 bucks a month, i spend that much on a daily basis just on my lunch break especially if I have a Margarita with lunch. 30 bucks for the game? What new game is completely free? If the server transfer will cost money how much could it be? I have no problem paying under 50 bucks to transfer my character to a place I can enjoy the game with friends on. Maybe I just don't see why you guys are so fired up over the situation over possibly spending a few bucks on this. Getting the transfer for free would be cool but it isn't a deal breaker if they ask for a few dollars is it?
No one is saying the game should be free. But it should surely pick if it is going to be free and charge for services, or cost money. But when a game cost money AND charges for services it is generally viewed as greedy/money grabbing. Can they get away with that? Of course. Especially when there is a crowd that would defend the game if it murdered someone in cold blood.
I do not believe anyone said, "Give us free transfers or we won't play" (At least in this topic). I was just pointing out that it is a money grabbing tactic. The whole argument started because Dremic believed it wasn't a tactic to get money.
So I will keep playing but I won't pay to move servers. And since it was there fault that a lot of people are on separate servers I will gladly point out what they are doing is greedy.

Do you even know what you're salty about ? Every MMO in existence has charged for server transfers
If you think they're greedy because server transfers aren't free than you need to grow up. Nothing is free and it's a service. When you go to McDonald's do they give you your food for free too ?
If you're mad that you can't do the research necessary to figure out server holds were and are temporary again you are delusional. Either way you sound entitled and small. With age will come maturity ( hopefully )
