    According to a post by SE, this issue seems to have been addressed during this downtime between B4 and EA.. :3

    Awesome!! Sorry I missed that post. I'll quote the important bit here for anyone else in the same boat:

    Also regarding the Beta Test Phase 4, we are currently fixing the data for Characters that had the corresponding issues.

    -We have resolved the issue where in some cases the client program force quits when selecting a Character.
    Well technically it says they're still fixing the character data but that's better news than we'd had before. Thanks autumnrain!
