The amazing scenery has kept me fairly interested in exploring, but it can only keep you going for so long. Knowing that there is nothing to actually discover that will influence your gaming in any way, nothing to find hidden in nooks and bushes, lowers motivation. To place some treasure chests, collectable objects and other things in various places would be such a boost to exploration.
Exactly. Exploration is good and encouraging if there is something concrete to search and find around or in the farest corner of the map. In FF11 there were random coffers in dungeons for example. But they could add also some special places to find for gatherers.. like a hidden lake where you can fish unique species or a place to log some special trees or a secret field to harvest particular flowers and herbs (graphically represented in game of course).
