Just not the way that quest was set up.

Manaclippers and the ferries around carpenters landing did have some lore to it also. Which is why I like tours. Pay a fee and a guide tells you about the location.
Imo the only reason the quest was as horrible as it was, is that you had to run back for each piece of clay which also took up inventory space, or if you've already done it with a different character. The idea behind it is good, and if we were given a key item which allows you to imprint all locations without having to run back each time for another clay it would be much more enjoyable. You could also get achievements for every 5 to 10 imprints and maybe a reward from the original quest giver.

Yes yes and more yes. Collectibles are good. I particularly like the ideas mentioned surrounding the collection of monster information through encountering them. I would be out killing one of everything I could find if that existed.

@ soj... I know... I said why it was horrific. I also didn't like how you had to do it for a map. I think it was the crawlers nest one. I did that quest 5+ times cuz I rerolled alot,, (over 100 times)

Btw the stone monument quest i mentioned was just an example and not what these collecting methods should be. Also if i liked it, i know that could be created in a better way.

About Rentahamster ideas, i think several of them belong to this topic as well.

The monsters book idea is really nice but it should gave you not all informations about that monster when you kill it, especially their secrets. You'll know its special abilities only when it uses them in combat, like the blue mage method.

Something like this is better suited for a game where you can get almost anywhere on the map like DCUO or Rift.. Since trying Rift I've logged on just to find some of these things scaling mountains and all. If FFXIV were to add more secret locations and make us discover the map on our own not have it right from the start this would be a better idea. but it's boring when you know where it can't be for sure.

    Some other ideas,

    Mog Hunt!
You'll have to find all the moogles hidden (invisible) around. Every mog will give you a reward and will tell you a riddle to find the next one (the sequence of every next mog wil be random for every player).. and when you click in that spot, it'll appear. When you find all, you'll have a big reward... maybe the possibility to access to Moogle Village

    Merchants Extravaganza
There are several special merchants around the world (also in hidden places). When you find them, they could be hired to become your retainer. Every merchant will have unique skin and stand (when you create the shop stand). And they could have some special abilities too, like more inventory space.

Full your home (when housing will take place)
In the same way of merchant extravaganza, you could find some particular people around the world to hire for your house. You can recruit them by quest or paying. Every npc will have its own profession for your house (smither, etc.).
