I apologize for reminding you! lol I know that it's not something they can change before release either... it's sort of depressing. But maybe something in the future? ; ;
The one big flaw with 2.0 is the opening cutscenes AND the first few hours of the game are really boring. It's really a hurdle you need to get past before you truly experience what the game has to offer. Sadly, a lot of people who will try this game won't wanna push through the first few boring hours. I've had a couple of friends try the beta and got too bored in the first hour to keep going, I had no idea how to hype them up enough to show them that the game gets less boring as you get more into it.
The openings in 1.0 were definitely more cinematic. Most cutscenes in 1.0 were well made.
However, cutscenes like what happens when you ride the airship the first time in ARR are better than anything I saw in 1.0.
Cutscene direction took a hit. So did the complexity of the story. 1.0 city-state storylines were surprisingly deep, as the lore forums will explain. I get the feeling the scenario team was told to dumb it down to SNES/PS1 FF levels.

Thing is, it's not just 1.00's openings that are so different in over all quality. The current dev team updated the old game with while their resources were split developing both games with new cutscene's and even those were freaking GORGEOUS!
Like this one featuring the old versions main boss. Skip to 5 minutes in to see some breath taking fire effects.

An other example with a compilation of various well designed cutscene's by the same current team with the old version focusing on the main villian. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4UtKf_sSX8
Comparing to them 2.0, the new scene's do feel cheap. Odd too considering it's the exact same people responsible for both. My guess is because with the old version they patched in only a handful of scene's every few months, so they had time to really make them special.
Yet with 2.0 their busy making hours worth all to get ready for launch. So their rushing through making them. Hopefully we'll see improvement when they start updating via patches and have more time to iron them out properly.
It's unfortunate we couldn't really give better feedback on this topic before the new openings arrived. They weren't revealed to us until it was already too late. I wish this would have had more time spent on it in ARR because hooking your audience is a big hurdle that I'm feeling the game is going to struggle with now. Legacy players will at least be able to recall these 1.0 openings, but new players will practically know nothing of them, leaving them only with a rather lack-luster carriage or boat ride into the game. It reminds me of the opening of Skyrim, but without the suspense and wonder...and no ferocious dragon at the end. =p
Listening to the Before Meteor soundtrack gave me such a heavy dose of nostalgia... ;_;
1.0 intro dropped you into the game after a CS and there was no aim to the game after that, 2.0 intro is shorter but there is a 50 level story which follows it.. now, which do you prefer?
