Openings in 1.0 were far better. I still remember the rush I got the first time Thancred and I looked up at the roaring goobbue after clearing the crowd away.

Yeah, for 2.0 I'm sure they wanted to put more resources in the Cinematic portion of the game but it would have increased the production cost and we probably wouldn't have the game until next year.
I always felt the cutscenes so far in ARR looked really cheap in terms of animation compared to 1.0...glad I'm not alone.
That said, it feels like a million years since I've seen the original Grid opening movie ;A;
Perhaps, but I'm concerned about some players not being able to become attached to characters and the story in ARR because they aren't necessarily on par with the 1.0 versions. I think that is why a lot of Legacy players stuck around. I'm not saying there aren't some of these aspects in ARR. Regarding Hydaelyn and such seem to be shrouded in mystery and interest in some of the ways 1.0 appealed to us. But I must say I feel uninspired by the opening for ARR as it stands now...and I'd prefer the voice-acting in the 1.0 cutscenes as well.
Mini-Spoiler Warning:
I'm just a bit concerned whether some of the smaller characters will ever return. Will their stories ever finish? That guy with the glasses in the Ul'dah cutscene, Niellefresne, is his "corpse" still lying in the Ul'dahn ossuary? Whatever became of F'lhaminn? Better yet, where is Chuchumu?!
I think this is a little unrealistic. It was impressive in some aspects, though people will refuse to admit for various reasons. Although ARR has taken many strides towards being a great game, many aspects of it began in 1.0. 1.0 will never be fully gone so long as the game is similar, but just reevaluated.

Yeah openings were good, can't lie about that.
Am I forgiven....
The 1.0 openings were simply epic, imo. They felt like a real final fantasy.
The curren't 2.0 opening tho.. It feels like a generic MMO opening. Not very final fantasy.
Also, yeah, the voice acting tanked a bit since 1.0. Like papalymo's voice? wtf is that! He's not an old ass man, he's a little taru dude that still looks extremely young. Give em a voice that fits his character. -_-
And the mogs? I kinda feel like they shoulda left them on subtitles instead of given em that ear cringing FF13-2 voice acting. Woulda made more sense anyways for us to not be able to understand them and just read subs off them. Mogs just don't feel right voiced over. :<
This thread....
The openings in 1.0 were nothing special. The only thing that set them apart was a fight thrown into it. A buggy, uncoordinated fight that tried to explain the basics of a broken combat system.
Who listened to the NPCs? Nobody.
Who attacked the monsters mercilessly until they were dead? Everybody.
Sorry, it was not that impressive. It was a broken tutorial with voice acting.
2.0s openings are boring (to us, because we've seen them 100+ times now), but they set up the story and give you what you need to know to start. Now the tutorials are broken up and spread out until level 20 or so, but they do what the opening of 1.0's scenes were supposed to do but on a much broader spectrum.
