Solution to Legacy Players Transferring to Non-Legacy Servers

Set a maximum amount of gil that can be carried over to a non-legacy server and bind all equipment to the player who transfers.

For example, assume that the maximum amount of gil to be transferred to a non-legacy server is 100K. A player who has 1 million gil on a legacy server would need to create a mule to hang onto 900k or sacrifice it all during the transfer. The 900k left with the mule could be utilized by a new character created on a legacy world if the player so desires. Once the player has reached the new world, all items and equipment are forever bound to the player (can't sell to NPCS, can't sell to the market). Therefore, it's in the players best interest to liquidate while on the legacy server if that player has items that he/she wish to sell (gil from these items would need to be left on legacy server assuming player is at the 100k cap).

I think this would be a perfect way to handle things. Additionally, if a legacy player were to have all classes/jobs to level 50 I do not think this will be an issue. Someone with all level 50 jobs won't be able to obtain more gil / affect the market more than someone with one level 50 job. If the server transfers are to occur 2 to 3 weeks after the launch; I think it's safe to assume that there will be brand new characters running around at level 50. As the game progresses, the transfer limit can increase.

    Thoughts?

well certainly a step in the right direction i would still be mostly worried about legacy players bringing over a bounty of materials for crafting and flooding the markets with them.

"This is an optional paid service that allows characters from active service accounts for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn to be transferred to a World of your chooosing.*1

Characters may transfer items, gil*2, and retainers to their destination World. However, linkshells, free companies, and friend lists cannot be transferred.

*1 Due to fluctuations in World populations, certain Worlds may not be available for transfer.
*2 Because transferred characters may influence the economy of their destination World, a limit has been placed on the amount of gil that can be transferred."

But they're still not going to let people transfer off legacy to non-legacy for at least a few months, maybe even 6 months to a year out. Depends on how fast the fresh servers cap out to all 50s would be my guess.

They aren't allowing legacy transfers for at least 6mo. This will be a non-issue by then. Dead horse continues to be beat.

players bypassed the WoW gold cap during transfers by buying low on their home AH, and reselling high on their new server

your idea solves the problem entirely

force-binding all items the character transfers with sound perfect

Legitimate concern. Could add an additional stipulation that all crafting items could not leave the server. So do your crafting before you leave the sever. You can only take equipment and the 100k gil and all of the equipment will be permanently bound to the player and unsellable. That more fair?

    What Cal said.

Either way, I suspect it's less an issue than one might fear. I don't know many people who would be willing to spend chunks of money transferring over a character just to "dominate" a market for all of a week. No matter how much someone brings over, the collective flow of goods across the entire server would rapidly dwarf their contribution.

The legacy players who want to transfer off need to reflect on why they want to transfer off. It's likely the very same reason people don't want them to be able to transfer for months.
