i somehow think carby is a bit OP when it comes to tanking. granted the initial three dungeons are fairly easy, it remains to be seen how it can perform in the other ones. as an off tank, its probably likely but i dont imagine it will be nearly as easy or efficient as a non pet off tanker.

Agreed. The defensive carbuncle seems a bit over-tuned for the lower levels (having almost twice the health of tanks), but I doubt it'll be like this past 30ish. Titan egi may have a similar honeymoon period after unlocking summoner, but I doubt we'd see much use for them beyond tanking little adds or for brief moments in the later game. That being said, I'd be really happy to see even that much of a off-tanking role for SMN.

As for additional egi, I'd be interested as to how they'd be implemented. Additional DPS/Tank/RDPS egi? Or would it be something different like having Leviathan egi be a support/healing type which could be helpful in later game situations.

Actually... summoner has a 300 cure potency + 100 potency regen fairy, and a 300 cure potency + silence enemy fairy. Plenty of room for support egis.

those are the scholar pets, not summoner pets

I too am curious to see a source for having a second class to lv 15 in order to get SMN or SCH just because I apparently missed it, lol and here I thought I was up to date on the latest ACN/ SMN info! So if anyone could link me, I would greatly appreciate it! <3

God these egi's are awefully small ...

OT - Arcanist is alot of fun and with Topaz Carbuncle, atleast at lower levels. Is a better tank then most players if the ARC knows how to play.

Now I haven't played ACN in this game yet, but you all make me want to play it. In FFXI I was always obsessed with pet jobs, I loved them because it was like having your own partner when ever you didn't have your friends to play with. Hearing that they've improved on the the SMN job and made it better is getting my really excited to see it for myself. I'm glad to see that they have made FFXIV in't a great game.

How important is pet positioning to playing ARC/SMN?

I was immediately interested in the class, but I am concerned about my ability to micromanage the pet.

As stylish as the summoners are, I might be better off just nuking things with BM if I have a hard time multitasking.

generally when pets do not have agro with a mob, they fight from the back. its a pretty standard setup since most mobs perform frontal attacks that would damage it. i don't remember seeing this mechanic though, so if there isnt one, it should be incorporated. a pet class needs to be able to keep its pet alive through the fight. dying to massive AOE is a problem that at least in WoW has been addressed since pet classes loose almost near half if not more of their effectiveness when their pets die, and reviving them is a significant reduction in dps.

Is there any benefit to not using the jobs? In other words, are there situations where and arcanist is better than a summoner or a scholar? Are there reasons why I would NOT choose a job?
