I'm almost certain Yoshi told us it is a tank pet.

Carby is a decent tank at low levels, and although it's usually not a good practice to draw conclusions from low level experiences I'm wishful that SMN will not only be able to help off tank in certain occasions which will add that much more utility to SMN but be a strong solo class as a result of their pet's tanking capability (Titan at least). Simply the ability to be able to heal your pets in FFXIV vs. FFXI is a huge difference that lends to their survivability.

Sustain has been incredibly helpful. Especially with Topaz and solo quests.

Yeah, they can. And they're good at it. I tanked Copper Bell Mines boss, Tam-Tara, and Sastasha bosses with Super-Carby.

I can vouch for this as well. I had a run with a bad tank and switched to my lemon flavor and he held his.

I'm still waiting to see if SMN can use its pets to Off-tank in some dungeons. If so, I may have to level that when I'm not working on WAR.

During phase 4 some friends and I three manned Tam Tara and we were all ANC and all used topaz Carby after I healer quit. We had a blast and I tanked every boss and Carby kept hate really well

summoner is looking to be a great all rounder class, which is a great thing. for example, during the one dunegon I managed to do during phase 4 our tank dropped. so I took over as tank for the boss fight... and topaz did it like a boss
