Tanaka or Yoshi?

I would of liked to see what ffxiv was under Tanaka's leadership fully realized, but that ship has sailed. with that said - i am loving where yoshi is taking the game. ESPECIALLY with the surprise that they had been working on a new client/and server side netcode. So with Tanaka it will forever remain a bunch of what-ifs. But Yoshi is doing a fantastic job. Especially considering he is making two games at once. Keeping the game running smoothly, adding great additions while simultaneously building the future of XIV.

And really... we already got Tanaka's FF MMO, Final Fantasy XI. it was great and its still there...
Lets keep yoshi!!

Tanaka's vision might have started out great on paper but somewhere that writing just got out of control and wouldn't stop. You can have the best ideas in the world, but if you don't sew them together your ideas become a blurred mess. There were giant holes in everything we received at launch, including the server structure. Even the original leveling process sounds good on paper, but come one... It's like everyone was shouting ideas at the "round table" and the decision was to add it all, no question.

I think he was so caught up in making this "Grand/Amazing/more realistic Final Fantasy World" that he forgot to set solid ground beneath him.

Yoshi-P has my vote for FFXIV. You can hate on him if you want, but I respect him for taking over this sinking ship and actually handling his business. He also actually listens to the community instead of everything falling on deaf ears.

Tanka would be like "This is working as intended."

The guy used to be great in my opinion but as the years went on he became too stubborn/blind to what needs to be done. FFXIV should not have been released in such a horrid state that EVERY feature of the game was filled with holes.

Could Tanaka make a better game than Yoshi-P, if given the time? Maybe

That's taken into account that Yoshi-P actually gets his own shot at a MMO with 100% his own ideas, not like what he's doing with XIV now(putting out the fires and building a city over an old dump site..)

There are very few things in any game that are actually "open world" as you so define it, with an utopian flourish. When they are open world, it's because it's not annoying to make open world.

Things like what? Leveling, NMs, HNMs, strongholds, and some dungeons. That's really all that is non-instanced in most games.

What is instanced? Timed things. When the rewards depend on time and percent completion, then the best way is instanced. Why? Because people are assholes.

What is this a fight for our Constitutional Rights or something? its a MMO: Let the Man make the game how he wants it.. I wish there wasn't a forum.. so he could do everything without 10,000 "Personal" Ideas and every person expects those ideas to be implemented.

You maybe surprised what Yoshi-p does.. influencing him to do something that he doesn't want to do can mess up his groove on making the game :/.. *shakes head with a /doublefacepalm*

I wish that as well, because he might not have changed it the way he did because of the polls. He might have ust added upon what tanaka had.

i completely agree which goes back a few pages...that if you bitch about it enough Yoshi will stitch it in. this shouldn't happen but it does more often than id like. ...hell SE should pay us. half of whats in the game we told them to put in through these *Polls*

I love how there's so many people talking about how great XI. I'm not going to doubt that it was probably very good.. but I never heard about it once until I looked at a video talking about Final Fantasy I to XII.. and then I remember when I first started playing it.. Logging in and not knowing what to do (not to mention the really strange keybindings).

Also if your look at the XI forums now, it doesn't seem like a very happy community to me =)

My only hopes for this game, is that there are more things to do than do daily quests, dungeons, and raid (WoW), and that 2.0 is awesome! :P

FFXI in in hay-day was amazing. Though I quit after CoP(life got busy..what can ya do?). I forgot when Tanaka left - but current XI has nothing to do with tanaka. all I know is Rise of Zilart, and CoP were MMO masterpieces

What I find hilariously sad is those people who say xiv should branch off have the original xiv at release(which they claim they would pay for) and have yoshi-p's version. I only bring this up because I see the surface of that idea being touched upon here. I do not understand how ANYONE could want what final fantasy xiv was at launch. I know its like... an opinion but come on... xiv at launch was complete and utter crap and everyone knows that - hence why there was such a quick staff change when it launched. I don't remember how many months after release that took but it was QUICK, and thank you SE for it. because I sure as hell wouldn't of been here today along with a lot more people not including those who left initially probably forever.
They are smart in doing this welcome back campaign. My friend is going to come back on May 9th to try it - and if not then hes going to give it another shot at 2.0. It is the best thing they can do to get people back.
I also think the damage was already done so bad that 2.0 should even shed the XIV name, and just go for Final Fantasy Online. let it be the first of that. Then with future FF MMOs they can do FFO2, FFO3 and such. That will also please the non-mmo playing crowd as we dont take up their mainline #'s. AND yes I am serious about rebranding it. I think it will let people know it is truely a new game
