    While I recognize that Tanaka had a hand in what may be the best games ever created by Squaresoft, I think he's not right at home with MMOs. FFXI kind of proved this. That being said, I've decided to give Yoshida a chance. He's not dissapointed me as of yet (granted, I'm not frothing at the mouth for engame content and for this to become FFXI-2 like certain individuals have), so I say: why not?

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
    Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

    What so an MMO with features like NPC side quests which you can fully solo is more MMO-like than a game with features like Company Housing and Ships which involve community participation?

    Please.

    It was purely the fault of catering to the FF fans that screwed this game over in terms of making it an MMO. SE wanted to capture the solo single player RPG FF fans and that's why so much of the game has been centered around such players. The game needs less of this and more MMO content like Tanaka had in store.

    Yoshi is not promising much community-related content with the small exception of some instanced dungeons (which is itself a spit in the face of MMO design). Instances turn games into entrance lobbies. An MMO is supposed to be a persistent world, by definition.

    Tanaka said in an interview that they would not have instanced dungeons primarily because he wanted players to be playing in the same world. If anyone knew what an MMO was, it was Tanaka.

    You really need to take off the rose colored goggles about community when it comes to actual meaningful progression. That is, unless you enjoyed the needless competition and drama for certain mobs and drops in FFXI and suddenly want more of that here, despite there being people like me who grew sick of that crap very early in our time playing MMO's. The concept of an in-game community is not going to die just because of instanced content. And the positives far outweigh any of your perceived negatives on the matter.

    Yes, I despise in-game drama and competition.

    I think Yoshi is making something really concrete to resuscitate the game but i hope he will not drop the old nice ideas still not released. Like the 'crafting players sinergy' to create something big (like a ship) or that special video (in the Vanadiel Event) in which we saw that sort of ship battle. I'm looking forward the Grand Companies for example just because it was an idea of the old team (by Tanaka?) but probably expanded now. We'll see.

    Maybe a sinergy between Tanaka and Yoshi would have been perfect.

    One of the reasons I actually even call into question Yoshi's suitability as leader is because SE has basically stated they are - for now anyway - no longer working on companies in the same way that Tanaka's team envisioned.

    Player-made ships and housing were some of the first things to get cancelled or put on hold while Yoshi's team works on The Grand Companies which will function more like quest-hubs by the sounds of them.

    I forget which article, but it was a gaming website interview I believe. Yoshi said that their team hadn't thought about what companies would actually do beyond making ships and houses, so they are first going to focus on Public Companies (governed by NPCs) rather than Player Companies for now.
