    Old 1.0 Buddy Pass Questions

    Hello.

I still have an old 1.0 Buddy Pass available. Can that be used so that someone else can continue to play their Open Beta-Character? Also, are Buddy passes region locked? I myself am EU Zone, but the recipient would be NA. Would it work for them on their Beta Account, or would they have to make a new EU Zone Account?

    Thank you.

Hi Zac! A buddy pass is an existing 1.0 standard service account. If her open Beta Character is on a different account, she would have to recreate her character on the buddy account again.

I'm not sure if buddy passes are region locked, but they very well could be because they are counted as a standard account registration.

Oh hi Hiir! Long time no see.

Thanks for the info. So they'd need to make a new account in any case? Then it probably wouldn't matter much.

But wouldn't that mean that everyone who has not bought XIV before and is now buying it can't continue with their Beta characters when they buy a new copy of the game? Or is that just the case for Buddy Passes because they are 1.0 ?

Because I got some friends started on ARR now, and they preordered now, and they'd be pissed if they'd lose their Open Beta progress again.

Well, if she never had a FFXIV 1.0 service account, what will happen is when she logs in to her launcher with the Square Enix account for the first time she'll be asked to register a Service. Then she puts in the buddy code and (if it isn't region locked) she should be good to go with her P4 Open beta character. ^^

Before giving up all hope and starting over make sure it won't work for you guys. Even try calling SE support if worst comes to worst. That code is worth quite a lot to not get some use out of. It was a very good way SE allowed us CE owners to get people into the game. I got my wife in with my buddy pass. Now we play ffxiv together before and now arr. We plan to keep playing for years to come.

    We'll try in any case.

But another matter came to mind just now: payment.

How do you choose which currency is used with your account? This question is a bit more general, since the zone is "Europe & others" which apparently includes Australia, and I doubt they pay in €uros.

Nope! Us Aussies pay in Euros. Sucks for us lol means our sub fees are about $20 per month
