    Nation change?

During Phase 4, even though my legacy character was Limsa Lominsa citizen, upon entering the game it automatically made me Ul'dah without any input (that is, apparently citizenship is a function of a class, and not something you can choose freely). Is there or will there be any way to change to proper nation for legacy characters?

Your starting nation is entirely dependent on your first chosen class, there is no changing that.

This is not your "nationality", it simply determines which of the three minor storylines you have leading into the main story. Once you get your airship pass there is no difference between which nation you chose and you can use the same services in any nation you wish to use as your home base.

Your real "nationality" is chosen when you pick which Grand Company you wish to join later on.

+1 This and you may also change your nation (GC) at a later date if you decide X isn't your cup of tea (or if you are a completionist). Just bare in mind that you can only equip GC gear to the company you belong with.

It's quite a bummer to have something like that chosen for me, especially in a story centric product! Ah well

You can change your Grand Company, which is far more important than your starting city. While the game records your starting city in your character info, it is of little significance and only determines (for the most part) the very early part of the main story. After the lv14 story quest, the plots converge into one.

You cannot change your starting city but it isn't important either.

Your starting city is tied to the class you start with- This is to ensure that your class's guild is in your starting city so you don't end up wondering where your guild is / have to travel halfway across the world to access.

One of the first quests in the game has you visit and register with your starting class's guild- That's not exactly easy to do if you choose to start in gridania as a marauder when the marauder's guild is in Limsa Lominsa. This is why your starting city is tied to your starting class- it's easier for new players this way.

I'm talking about legacy though, not new characters

edit: that is to say, simply by virtue of logging in with my main class, my nation (part of the identity of the character) was switched on me.

you don't even get to pick your nation until after you've completed the ifrit fight

your character is just initially dumped off at the nearest guild to your chosen class after the initial cutscene - but this is not your character's home nation

that's not something you're allowed to decide until you've played the game for awhile

(although i feel your pain, in P4 i didn't flip my class from conjuror to gladiator like i had intended, but the 15 minutes of gridania wasn't so bad)

Your home nation is determined by the class you pick due to your class's guild being there (and your quests for that class)
Why people complain about this is beyond me. Convenience! ANYTHING BUT THAT!

once you hit level 10, you can change your class via the armoury sytem after completing the quest required to unlock it
once you hit level 15 and complete the quest "Duty, Honor, Country", you can use the airship and unlock the other classes there.
once you defeat Ifrit in the "Lord Of The Inferno" quest you can change your home nation via GC...

Do grand companies have their own story missions like FFXI's rank missions? If I want to complete those missions together with friends, do we have to make sure to choose the same grand company?
