A tip for you fellow black mages, and I never see anyone doing it for some reason:

If you're stuck with no mana, don't use transpose... use vials of ether. Under Astral fire III blizzard III only costs 76 mp to cast, just pop a hi-ether and you can continue with Umbral Ice III instead of using transpose and going back to Umbral ice I.

I'm so sick with BLM job skills. Seriously, they are underwhelming.

Convert, Apocastasis, Mana Wall, Freeze, Flare... They are all very situational.
Where are the powers of destruction my job trainer talked about ? Flare ? What a joke.

Most jobs grant useful powers that define the class.
    Jumps, Oaths, Chants, etc.
So what defines BLM is Convert and Apocastasis ? That's great.

I'd kill to have Flare being a true nuke power with longer cooldown but NUKE damages.
Yeah I know, L2 use it, blabla. I know how to use flare, but it's useless unless you can aoe on 3 enemies and damages are so-so considering the cast-time + Transpose.
Same for Freeze. I wish it was a real nuke power freezing enemies for real not binding them, with a longer cooldown.

The BLM job brings nothing special to the THM and strips THM from great cross-skills.

That picture reminds me of some great moments as a BLM with true BLM powers:

Too bad even that pic is a relic of the past. BLM in XI hasn't been useful since Abyssea.

I've read on this forum in a couple places how equipping Spell Speed doesn't really help BLM, because it quickens the casting only, with no effect on the GCD. These statements usually also make mention of Skill Speed affecting GCD for melee jobs. So what about equipping Skill Speed as a BLM? Would it lower GCD? And if so, is there enough to be had to be worthwhile?

    Ignore it, they are both pure garbage. I have said it many time but once more for ya;

Wep DMG > INT > Acc 437 give or take > Crit > Vit > Det > whatever.

Spell speed does affect global cooldown, if you don't believe me check your recast after taking off a piece of spell speed.

Currently I have 465 spell speed from my gear, which only equates to about a 4.8% casting time reduction. So as you can see most other stats are better to aim for if possible.

hmm well ideal rotation should probably be as follows; T3 (on pull) > F3 > F1 (using F3 on firestarter procs *Stopping cast for procs as well* as well as T3 for thundercloud procs again stopping cast) > 500~mp > B3 > T2 (YES THUNDER 2) > F3 > rinse repeat. Opener you should throw raging strikes in before F3, swiftcast is ideally used after you cast B3 in above rotation to instant cast T3 giving you a few extra seconds on your thunder dot allowing for possible extra proc but either way an increase to dps.

This is just about the worst advice I've ever seen. Don't do any of this.

    This can't be for real.

The sole fact of you calling... THAT... a "rotation" made me cringe.
