Also the point of Thunder I and Thunder III is going to be an EXTREMELY marginal DPS difference whichever is better so the point is nearly moot. But since Fire is our primary damage cast, maximizing those cast is going to be the higher DPS, not casting Thunder III for 100 more potency with a 5% chance to happen with each tick of thunder. This is about min/maxing not tunnel visioning what you think is right.

So I just switched to black mage and I am wondering should I use convert to get an extra cast of astral fire to maximize my dps?

I became a Black Mage today and realised I couldn't use cure anymore. Now I know I could just change back to THM if I needed it for a specific single quest but is there any other way to achieve this?
Can Physik be used from Arcanist?
It doesn't matter in dungeons but some solo missions I like to have it.
At the moment I have convert seems a bit rubbish, when do the other actions unlock? Do I have to be using BLM to unlock them?
It's just at the moment using the BLM seems just a bit meh.

Its a very low level skill so you will get it fast, helps a bit but like mcavey said it heals for a very small amount closer to 50. It still helps tho.

Yes physik works but its a very small heal-especially as you get closer to 50. Sleep will help you catch your breath.

As far as actions go-most are so-so/utility. Only one Im looking forward to is flare but that uses 100% of your mana(I think)-once I get to 50 Ill have to figure that out.

Trying to figure out my rotation, I am level 37 and this is what I do

Thunder 2 - Fire 3 - Fire 3 - Fire 3 - Transpose - Blizzard 2 - Scythe - Fire 3 - Fire 3 - Fire 3 - Transpose .. and keep repeating, I dont often refresh thunder

What do you guys think?

Physick is still good at 50. It's only a 300ish-400ish heal, but 2-3 casts of those are easily half your health and it can mean the difference between surviving an impending aoe or not as the healer may not get to you soon enough.

And it's dirt cheap to cast to boot.

Analisys of potency of thunder

Thunder 3 adds 1 60 pot initial cast, 2 70 more pot for 2 more shots, 3 probability to proc at least once thunder cloud goes from near 30% to near 37%

so we have:
100% 60 more potency
7% of doing 340 potency we didn't get with tunder
30% to get 100 more potency if trait proc early on
70% of doing 70 more potency if trait not proc or proc on the lasts tiks
total
60 + 23.8 + 30 + 49 = 162.8 more potency for 1 second cast time and mana

the answer to ask now is, how many potency/sec the rotation with thunder 1 does? With mana pool cast thunder 3 means 1 less cast of fire 1? (the difference is 213 MP way lower than fire 1 cost under astral 3. At worst, you need to add 213 MP to your mana pool in some way)
Is 5% proc accurate, some mob have way to lower it? (i noticed with fire starter that on some bosses it seems to proc way lesser than expected, like once in 2 rotation <.< I don't know if i'm just unlucky but it happen only on bosses....)
If the rotation does more than 163 potency/sec then thunder 3 is not worth it

I don't know exactly how much potency/sec is our rotation, so i'll need some more input here from someone that have done more math than me on this
